That is for the 1981 e21, a 50% increase in just one year.
And for the 1964 Dodge 1/2 truck that belonged to my father that I keep for hauling stuff, it went from $107 to $145. It has a "commercial plate."
Sounds like this is it: http://www.capradio.org/articles/201...asing-in-2018/

Money grab at it's finest. Here in RI the cost of reg goes up a min of $10 a year.
Well, as long as it actually goes toward the road repair that sounds awesome. The bay area toll roads are the only nice roads around me for miles save I-5. 99 through Lodi is just painfully bad

I dont agree with all of Texas politics but I do like that I can have my cars without threat of the state taking them up or taxing them.
Problem is Somjuan - the state has already done a boat load of these road repair tax increases and DMV increases and they always seem to get used for other things. We have the highest fuel taxes, DMV fees and other hidden taxes for road repair they just never use it for that. Think about it there are 10s of millions of cars being used in California - where is all the money going?

just felt the pain of 30% increase on registration fees myself, on 4 vehicles. what's unbelievable is that they actually put a TBD charge right on the listing of fees! apparently, they don't know what they're going to spend it on but they know they need it. ludicrous
We're lucky on that front in Wisconsin, our e21's can be put on "collector" plates for cars and trucks over 20 years old. It is a permanent plate, meaning there is a one time $200 charge then that's it for as long as you own it. There are only three limitations, you must have another vehicle registered in your name with regular plates, you can't drive on these plates in the month of January and trucks cannot haul over 500 pounds of materials. The cars are supposed to be unmodified, but they don't check this anymore from what I have heard. Also, if you have additional collector cars, they are only $150 each for a permanent plate.

Yes mine did the same thing,, $121 for this year from $91, Registration fees have skyrocketed since going off ad valorem , then it was $52 a year. a Public Audit is necessary to get to the bottom of this financial fiasco.

Thats sucks. I noticed (because i just did the registration on my 87 325 this afternoon) that not only does texas tax you for roads in your property tax, theu also tax you in your vehicle registration.
I geuss i never noticed how high it is in texas because i always had veteran plates but since this is my son's car (for college) it has regular plates. 71 bucks a year and 10 of it goes for roads and bridge repair. Yet texas has terrible roads, too. So bad, they were talking of making bicycle riders register their bicycles so they could tax 25 a yesr for road repair. Apparently my bicycle destroys asphalt and i never noticed since i soebd 100 a year on tires.
I think it was 6 or 7 years ago my E21 was $50.00 or so and my 65 Wagon was $42.00 now they want $112.00 - Last year.

California does a two year registration though, right? i think that's how they did it when we lived in riverside and corona, back in the 80s and 90s. i seem to remember my dad talking about it when i was in junior high and high school.
texas recently (i think last year) went to a different type of registration. used to be you had a registration sticker and an inspection sticker but now you cannot get your registration till an inspection station signs you off in the computer system and you only get one sticker. it cuts some clutter from your field of view while driving, which is nice

No we have to register our cars yearly out here.
We have to smog our cars that are over 5 years old every two years which is another $55.00 to ??

you are right, I misremembered it. we are lucky that way, we don't have smog inspection in the county I live in

Ha ha ha, at least you are in the old neighborhood with all my friends i grew up with.
Yea, one of the benefits when I lived in CA was that I still had my Oregon driver's license, so all my cars were registered up here... Even had a sticker on my license that had my SD address on it, which was weird. People hated that whenever I got ID'd cause it looks fake as hell... but that's how Oregon rolls!
I miss San Diego, but I don't miss all the BS from living in CA.

we drove out to san fran and Disneyland for my oldest son's graduation, this passed may. it was fun to see all the places from when I was a kid but the cost of gas and the terrible traffic made me happy to not live there anymore. and people I met in vegas while on the trip, said that the state has gotten crazy with tickets so that if you cross at a corner and the light is not telling you to walk, you get a jay walking ticket. I met them because there was no traffic so I walked across the street and a whole group of people made the weirdest noise, like they were sucking in their breath. one of them asked where I was from and I said we were visiting from texas. they told me don't do that if we go to cali because I would get ticketed. I told them I grew up in socal and they said it was not the same as when I left
