Front passenger side too low 740i M-Sport

My passenger side front is way lower than usual and I'm pretty sure I don't have self-leveling suspension on the front. The ride is now awful and I smelled burnt rubber when I took it around the block (I realized I shouldn't be driving it like this I and drove it back home). Could a coil spring have snapped? I have not had a chance to take the wheel off yet to check...

Any of you ever have this happen?

    Thanks

Yes, numerous posts of coils or spring seat breaking. Certainly a bad sign if you smell rubber burning...

Agreed Oldroller. Sounds like the lower spring perch on the strut broke and is rubbing on the tire. Pull the tire to check and don’t drive it if it is. This is exactly what happened to our old E46. Had to replace the struts and a tire.

Self levelling doesn't exist on the front suspension, only on the rear as SLS. As oldroller said I would suspect the spring pan having corroded and collapsed. The rear dampers are particularly susceptible to this

Thanks for the replies. Bad spring perch sounds about right. I will have some time to inspect tonight to confirm and will follow up. Does the sport model require the electronically assisted style struts?

    Thanks again!
