    New Kid in the Family

Well, we just pulled the trigger on a 2015 xdrive 28i. Had a 2011 x3 that served us well for a number of years but was beginning to have some issues, so we had to make a change. Will post some pics when I have a chance.

Question to forum members - What type of gas do you use (regular, mid range or premium) and what kind of mileage do you get?

Congrats on the new x3, normally you can tell what gas goes in it by reading the recommendation on or by the filler cap. Personally I use 91 or higher as long as it has no ethanol.

Ditto...I would refer to the BMW recommendation in the owners manual (or look around the fuel filler door area for a sticker/label that should have the octane specfication.

You may also want to refer your questions to the F25 X3 forum...you may get better responses since this is an X5 (e53/e70/e71) forum.

For example...you can see the fuel spec label adhered to the fuel filler door on my e53 X5 in pic below:

Actually, I need to learn how to type and proofread. The old car was an xdrive 28i. New one is a 35i x5.

One clarification - I know what is recommended, but when I bought my 325, I had many people tell me they were using regular or mid range with no issues. I've had at least one person tell me it's the same for the x5, but not sure I believe them

Assuming this is a 2015 F15 X5 35i...I googled for an f15 owners manual to see if the "minimum requirement" and "recommended" octane fuel specs was listed like it has been in the past.

Sure enough...the owners manual DOES give a minimum fuel requirement...as well as a recommended fuel octane. The requirement allows the engine to function...whereas the recommended fuel octane should give fuel consumption and performance more in concert with advertised specs. Yes, this is from the owners manual...so it's not a "what other people say or use" suggestion. See copy of page from owners manual that gives the "required minimum" and the "recommended" AKI fuel octane specs for a 2015 F15 X5. If you decide to use the "required minimum"...do take note of what the owners manual says in full...the following is just a few sentences from the manual...refer to your manual for the complete description when the minimum requirement is used:

"Fuel that does not comply with the minimum quality can compromise engine function or cause engine damage..."
