I recently found a 2002 Imola in GA that I'm thinking about buying. It has a ton of miles and mechanical condition is unknown. However, it has a clean Carfax and the pictures look good. When I was stationed in Hawaii in 2002 BMW of Honolulu had this same car in a 2000 MY, and I fell in love with it. However, finances prevented purchase. Now I have the opportunity to buy my dream again.
My first BMW was an E38 with a ton of miles and in need of a lot of TLC. That first year saw nearly $7,000 in repairs (tires, control links, all steering hoses, AC overhaul plus a ton more I can't recall) so I know the expense going into it. However, when you consider I'm also looking at a new Scat Pack Charger or a leftover Chevy SS, and you weigh what they cost, putting another potential $12,000 into a car that is way more fun and driver involved than either mentioned, and the fact I won't ever sell it, and it makes sense. Put another way, I can spread that cost out over time, rather than get stuck with a $700+ payment each month for who knows how many years.; it won't cost me anything if I'm not driving it. Finally, IMO, it's the best designed sedan from any automaker. Notice the period. The M just adds to that aggressiveness. And Imola is a fairly rare color; I especially love the Imola extended interior.
I'm taking a road trip this week to look at it.
I just picked mine up a few weeks back. It's coming back from the shop for all maintenance this week...and I already have muffler tips being shipped. Hope to get those in this weekend
Just make sure you're happy with the car...and from my 3x of driving it...I never want to let it go
Good luck mate!
