2003 525iT bought as a CPO in '06 with just under 20k miles on it. After the "free maintenance" included with the CPO program expired, I needed rear brake pads and a local shop quoted me $1000. For just the pads. And then had the audacity to want more for an alignment because the BMW suspension was "complicated" and had "additional...whatnot". That's when I started working on it myself. Kept it running, driving, and looking great for almost 200k miles, ultimately trading it in an E92 328i coupe last year.

My first bmw was a 1989 750iL that I bought for $300 and had to chase the title down. Drove it for two years, it went through two accidents (neither my fault).... now it's a parts car. It, and a second parts car, enabled me to build this...

I was born with old BMWs. My father always drove one while he worked at a luxury auto dealer in Queens, New York. That and many other luxury cars of the 80s but he always took a BMW when they brought one in. He'd have them for a week or 2 at a time. Eventually he bought his own 1982 633csi for $300 or so haha, he had repainted that car so many times it was more paint than metal by the time we moved to Florida, but we loved it. He then purchased a 1989 735i just before he sold the 633 for parts after owning it for so many years. He taught me so much as a kid on the 633 and when the 735i needed work, I was doing the work myself at the age of 13. He gave me the car after I graduated high school, I always wanted it but he was fed up with old cars.

A few years later I sold it because I could not keep using it as a daily and my dad already bought a Mercedes W210. I missed it and regreted selling it so much, I bought my now current 89 750iL for $1000 in non running condition. 4k later and its in fantastic shape!

I see most of us here have a passion for these cars, and the first BMW always seems to get everyone hooked. I cant seem to find that same passion with other cars, even Mercedes, and we own one. The community doesn't really seem to be as present as we are.

Well... then you have those guys that drive a BMW just for status... I tried to strike up a conversation with a guy like that with his really nice 4 series, when he saw my E32 with the hood open, he turned around and walked away... lol.

There is a lot of "Status" BMW drivers where I live. There have been many times they were too cool to talk to me! But, tt is a good feeling when someone and pulls up at a light or gas station and tell me stories of growing up around an e32 or models of the same vintage. It's nice to know they are appreciated by people. Surprisingly, the most people who actually stop and talk shop are the M guys....

The first BMW I bought has a special place in my heart because it was also my first car. A 1988 735i for $850 on it's second engine/transmission and odo stuck at 299995.

I put 30,000 miles on it before the head gasket blew. After fixing it (poorly) myself, another 15,000. My dad sold it while I was away at college...

Now as I'm about to start my career, everything aligned to get me and back in a 1988 735i, but with just under 50k miles

It is an ongoing project and some day it will be more than just a garage hog.
While fueling this beast up at my local rural farmland gas station off the Interstate, an older woman walked around my car. She caught me looking at her (I guess my face expression, or just my face, was weird) and she stood back and declared, "So, this is a BMW? I just wanted to see what a real BMW looks like." We grinned at each other in that smug kinda way. I don't think she was from my area as we get a lot of tourists passing thru.

I learned how to drive in my dad's 15 year old E34 with a wooden steering wheel (felt like a boat)
When I bought my first BMW, it was a E36 (316), then moved up to an E39 (520) and now own a E32 (730).
Anyone an idea what could be the next step?
    3-5-7-... don't think they ever made a 9 series

I didn't think I had a picture of my first BMW. But there it was at the bottom of a box. My daughter is 34 now and in this picture I believe she's about four. That would mean my 83 E23 (5 speed) was a little over four years old and this must be late 1987. At the time I was an Xray Tech working my way into other imaging modalities and I always saw myself as somebody that exposed people to radiation. So I had that vanity tag made XPOSURE. Questions from everyone. I wish I had more pics of this beauty. My first shot at a BMW. It had black leather interior and was bronzitbeige metallic. I'll always remember it.

In 69 I purchased a 1 owner 1600 with 30K miles, that was 8 months old. This was the 02 body with the 1600 cc engine. Drove it for 12 years and an additional 120,000 miles.

My First BMW was a 1990 735i that my Dad bought while I was visiting him in Philly. I fell in love with it so deeply that he ended up giving it to me, so I drove it back to Florida. It was black with tan interior and was in pristine condition with Only 123k. Learned everything I know by working on my 735i and it really opened my eyes into the bimmer world. Ended up adding a 1991 750il to my collection and fell further in love with the m70 V12. The 735i was my baby and I ended up making the 750 my daily drive (At the time I only had a 4 mile commute so fuel wasn't an issue). Ended up parting with the 91 750il and got a 2006 750li. But I still longed for the V12 and missed it dearly. So a couple years on after continually looking I found a 1993 750il in Atlanta with only 85k. So I snuck out of the house at 3 am and drove up to Atlanta to buy the car. Had a big rig company setup already to tow the car to my mechanics lot in Orlando since I didn't want my wife to find out. Let me say that didn't turn out to be a smart plan. After my wife found out I brought it home and my 3 bmw's plus her car and the in laws car became to many cars to handle so I ended up deciding to part with my 735i which at that point had 225k. I wish I kept it but was happy to see it go to a good home for the next teenager to learn what he can from it. SO currently I have my 06 750li which is my DD & my 93 750il which I keep in the garage and drive on the weekends. Planning on taking it to the Vintage 2019 as I had a blast at 2018. I was also shocked with how many more features my 1993 750 had over my 1991 750. Didn't realize all the options that came with the later E32 750's. Double pane windows, soft closing trunk, automatic rear sun shade. Xenon headlights (mine were removed), and a few more.
Looking at upgrading my E66 to an F02 but I know that my E32 will stay constant for me.

When I was 14, my father bought me a 1988 BMW 735i for 1500 bucks. It was running on five cylinders, the transmission gave out within a month, and the car was generally a piece of crap. I drove it through high school until I got my Z3. My dad sold it in 2012. That was probably for the best. But I loved it. So much so that I bought it when it came up for sale again. I've been keeping it alive for the last couple years. My dad wasn't too pleased to see it again though.

My first was a used 528i in green w/ a 5 speed. I bought it at a used car lot in Ft. Lee NJ. I drove it for many years until an inept garage operator allowed the car to roll into the elevator pit and the elevator car came down on the roof.
