    Mspnp install

Installing mspnp in place of stock ecu looked like it just dropped right in based on instructions from diyautotune. Yes the setup itself is easy enough and well laid out but this thing just doesn’t fit where stock ecu was. I can get it in there but then the cover will not be able to screw back on. Someone else must have experienced this. Am I missing something here? I am dropping this in 535i with m30 but I assume m50 owners may have same experience since it installs in the same spot on passenger side of engine bay.

From what I remember from watching someone do it on an e30. The mspnp doesn't fit where the stock ecu is so it had to be rerouted to sit in the glove box.

Got my answer from diyautotune. They never test fit the pnp ecu in an e34 chasis even though it outlines where the stock ecu is and how to install on their website. I guess it was assumed it would just fit.

The case the ecu is in needs to be shortened by at least an inch, the serial/optional ports need to be 90 degrees and the mounts have to be added to the sides like they are on stock ecu to get it to be secure. I would also say that whatever that VDO unit is next to the ecu is needs it’s mounting holes to be widened just a touch to slide it over and squeeze megasquirt unit in there.

I will probably just leave it for now and get some 90 degree adaptors on the ports. The harness barely snaps down on this thing its such a tight fit. Then I may cut the plastic cover to go around the ecu so I can screw that back down and probably just epoxy something over the hole I cut so it’s all sealed.
