    Gearbox shifting arm question

A while back i`ve blown my manual Getrag, replaced it with another one but since then my shifter in 5th gear almost touches the trim and is hard to find.
The whole pattern moved a bit to the right.
When i first lowerd the car from the elevator, it would not shift into 4th and 5th as it was touching the trim. After a some fiddling from underneath, the guy that did the swap, managed to get it "fixed" but not entirely.

There is some slack in the shifter, like all e34`s have, bot i don`t think that is the main cause for this.

Is there a possibility that the shifter arm to be installed backwards?

The donor car for the gearbox was a 2.5 e34 if that helps

Yes, the shifter arm can be installed backwards. Just disconnect the linkage rod
    and spin the lever 180*
They can also get really sloppy when the bushings and rear mount are bad.
