Just thought I'd post this here so you'd all know the situation with these. I've had and OEM blower Motor on order and after one week was told there are none at any BMW dealer in the US and there are no OEM motors in Germany. They haven't listed it as NLA or ENDED yet, but they're nowhere to be found. There are cheaper ones, like URO etc, but I've always kept my car stock. I did some research and found that BEHR actually manufactures these for BMW. I ordered this from eEuroparts.com. Spoke to them and they should have an exact fit motor in about a week. Every time I come across a part that causes me to travel the world to find it, makes me realize how many decades I've got this car. Glad to do the search and the BEHR motor was about 50 bucks less than what I had on order. Hope it actually comes.

Hey Jeff , Think there were 2 manufacturers of the blower motor . Siemens and Behr. I have Behr in my cars ... as stock originals .. all fine . Mind you .. stuff isn't made the same these days as it was when our girls were made back in the '90's . All built to fall apart these days unfortunately ... still, many years left in our beasts yet i feel with some extra TLC . Good luck .
They like to catch on fire, that's all you need to know. Replace the 30A fuse with a 20 for extra safety.

ECS Tuning and Turner claim to have access to them, "ships in 2 days". Also a seller on Ebay with Behr units. Search part no. 64111468542

I think you'll find that no matter what web site you go to that says they still carry the OEM motor, Turner, Autohauz, BavAuto.....all the parts places we use, when you place the order they'll come back at you with a big sorry. None available anywhere. But now that I've heard from Erich as well as others that BEHR manufactures parts for BMW as well as me having a BEHR radiator in my car for the past ten years with no problems, I ordered that one, and it was shipped, thank god. Should be here Friday. I'm hoping that when I open the box it is a BEHR. We'll see. I never ordered from eEuroparts.com before. Price was good. Right now my blower motor is real funky. For a week it will work fine. Then if I don't drive for a couple of days, I'll go in the garage and start the car up, turn on the A/C and nothing. Take my fist and punch the dash board, and away it goes. Can't wait to see what the old one looks like.

Yesterday, when I was having a little problem with my interior lighting, I was under the hood looking at the fuses. I figured I'd just turn on the A/C for a minute and the blower motor didn't come one. So this time since I was under the hood, I took a hammer and lightly tapped the panel on the firewall that needs to be removed to get the to blower motor and with one tap it came on. Next week I'll drop the car off at my shop to replace it along with those leaking air bag sensors and a few other yearly things.

I had problems with mine running intermittently. I finally narrowed it down to cracked solder joints on the connector socket on the sword. After re-flowing new solder, it has been running flawlessly ever since.

These all had obvious cracks in the solder:

Funny you mention that. I figured since my SWORD (final resister) is now 29 years old, since I'm giving my guy the job of replacing the defective motor, I bought a new SWORD from Programa. They were on sale for $115.00. Was a good deal and that will happen at the same time. Just as a preventive maint thing. I do stuff like that. When my high pressure power steering hose blew 8 years ago, I decided to replace it along with the two other hoses and the pump. Haven't had a leak since. On cars like these you need to think about systems and not parts. When my upper control arm needed to be replaced, I did them both with the lowers, the center link, the idler arm and both stabilizer links. Again, only way to keep this car in order.

Yes, I've finally adopted that attitude, replacing stuff because it's time, not waiting for them to fail, like batteries, water pumps, hoses, thermostats, alternators, etc.

Years back I also had to "tap" the dash to get the blower to run. When I replaced the blower I found that the brushes were worn down to nothing.(years back someone did a write-up on replacing the brushes) New blower, all better. Yeah, the sword in mine is original, I'll be looking for a replacement.
