Yeah I fall in to that line of thinking. As long as it looks good and I can return it to factory stock if I wanted to.
The one problem I had with the clarion build was that head unit they had did kind of stick out but as far as everything else that was pretty cool.
Actually, my system upgrade has been on-going for the last 6-7 years or so. I've gone through various set-ups and configurations and still not satisfied.
I've had very high-end Clarion heads, Nakamichi CD500, CD700 II and others and finally settled on the McIntosh. I'm all for retaining a clean original looking console and secretly wished these high-end head makers would make a modern head that is custom fitted to our cars (again, that's a secret wish). But, I'll make do with what's out there today.
The McIntosh head unit I have in the car will never look as good as the original OEM and it's also just loosely sitting there as I'm not done with my installation. Sadly, I'm an audio nut and just addicted to sweet sounding audio setups. With that said, I'm contemplating about changing out the CDT ES gold series mains and dual ES 6+ woofers along with the 6.5" Critical Mass RS6 in the rear for all Focal setups. Again, just being crazy and should just settle for what I have already.
Nice!!! You can’t go wrong with Alpine. I have had several Alpine units in my vehicles for a long time and I’m on my second one in my 8 (I upgraded from the original Alpine I installed from 2009). I now have access to all forms of entertainment which I didn’t have previously and I am very happy with my unit and sound. I’m sure you did (or will) upgrade the speakers as well to match your unit.
Yes sir Mr. Harris did all speaks and amp all hidden looks factory except for the head. Sure makes driving that much more enjoyable.
