Yes. NickG was one of the early turbo tuners. Conforti was the pioneer E36 tuner, but the only forced induction work he is known for is the Eurosport twin screw. AA was also an early turbo tuner — the first larger volume E36 turbo kit seller (MechTech was first but limited). TT started selling turbo kits a few years later. I think both learned a little from Conforti in the early days. There are lots of E36 tuners now.

I’ve run 22rpd tunes on 4 different turbo e36’s and 2 different na e36’s over the last few years. Honestly couldn’t be happier with the results, drivability and customer service they have provided.
Stock ecu tuners come down to how much time they have and are willing to put into their tunes. Smaller tuners have less people to deal with, which can result in faster responses and better customer service. At the end of the day, the e36 market, even the FI crowd is very limited. Many of the larger tuners would rather focus their efforts on the newer models, as there is greater profit margin. Makes sense to me, at the end of the day this is what the tuners typically do for a living.
I think all the big names are capable of creating equally good tunes, assuming they're putting their full effort into each. Some have to put less effort in for an 80% tune, but it will show when compared to a tuner that has put in their full effort.
I really need to experience a properly tuned, e36 stand alone, turbo street car. Thus far I have only experienced m20 turbo cars on mega squirt, 3 hpf e46 m3s, a handful of turbo Hondas, a couple Evos, 1 r32 GTR and a couple LS based cars. Most of the cars were hit or miss for day to day driving, start up, etc. Only 2 m20 turbo cars, all HPF cars, 1 LS car and the r32 GTR drove as seamless as factory ecu cars would. Stand alone does have a lot to offer for the money, especially when you factor in the cost of maf, based tuned, racelogic traction control, electronic boost controller, etc.

I see your point of view , but most people that do want ms3 are not even into big hp range , they go with stand alone because they were sick and tired of begging tuners for revisions. This is where you try an all and go with the best one

It seems that the guys who have more experience here than others and who have been here a long time prefer standalone
Actually most people here, including long timers and people making big power, are on stock ECU tunes. I think standalones will get a popularity boost when mega squirt plug and play becomes more common and people offer others their maps as a starting point.
All I know is what I have read from the previous posts regarding my Car and TRM VS Nick G. My car is currently running a TRM tune for 93+Meth at 22lbs and is running flawlessly. No flat spots, consistent AF's. The computer has got plenty of time to figure everything out while I am waiting for the 3586 to spool..
I called TRM as I wanted to do some dyno Pulls and check over everything, and they told me that I should just send it to them remotely. I would much rather spend some time on the rollers than try not to get my self arrested doing 3rd and 4th gear pulls around here. It's not like I live in Oklahoma.
22 RPD is in South Florida Right?

Steedspeed Twin-scroll Manifold, Wiseco 8.8:1 CR, K1 Rods, Supertech Valvetrain, ARP Main Studs, o-ring block, GTR 12mm head studs, GT35R with 86mm HTA billet compressor wheel (GT3586RHTA) Twin-Scroll 1.06 AR, Schrick Cams, TRM Tuning, 6 Speed Transmission, UUC Twin Disc Clutch, HFS-6 W/M injection, Zeitronix, Coilovers, Chassis Stuffs.
I'm switching to standalone, not because I don't like stock ecu I love it, but because Im swapping in an auto and want more data about the car. It will still be RK tuned tho.

I feel that at some point everyone is new and I'm sure the same applies to pbonsalb + a little a luck maybe? Doing a basic turbo setup is not hard - especially for the E36. All the info to install and what to buy is readily available. It's the crappy car that creates all the problems. I like my E36 for its I6 and smoothness. And I wouldn't own any other body style then the convertible with the hardtop. If it weren't for this forum, I would not own one at all. I consider all other aspects of the E36 to be junk (sorry guys) - I'm sure my car was the shit back in 1997. But I was young and dumb about 6-7 years ago and bought a used sabb from a local dealer, drove it 10 miles engine blew up. He had my car sitting off to the side because it needed a clutch - it was significantly more expensive but he let me have it with the measly down payment I put down on the Sabb. I thought Wow, a BMW...
With that said, Yes experience is still great but its not rocket science. Considering my experience, I did pretty damn well. When I first started the car I was boosting nicely and had been for awhile (aside from slight idling problems). And this was my first build ever and I gathered all my info from the guys here:
Butters, pbon, somebody, (and most of the guys here who have provided advice) - those guys would make some badass stock DME remote tuners and I don't understand why they don't... They give 110% effort with zero profit as is! If it weren't Butters the car wouldn't have ran the way it did at all. So shout out to you guys! You rock!
And volosso, yea hes good too but he costs money :-(
