    22RPD Tunes

I saw a thread awhile back about RK Tunes. https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...hlight=misfire

I wanted to start a similar one for 22rpd

Is anyone here running a 22rpd Tune and what are you experiences with it? From start to finish?

Zack is awesome. Not only does my car run great but he's helped with just about every step of the process. Answers messages usually within minutes even for questions I've asked already lol.

My setup was one he didn't have "off the shelf" being pump 93 s52 with huge ID1300 injectors. He had an e85 tune on hand but I wasn't ready to make the swap. After a couple revisions I was boosting. And since then he's made little adjustments as needed even staying up some nights past midnight for me to get logs and continue remote tuning. I'd recommend 22rpd all day long. Getting a dyno tune from him at some point this year to make things even better

Based on your very limited and "focused" posts here in the last few years,
you have an issue/resentment with this vendor.

I share your passion for focused anger.

My very limited personal indirect experience with RK has been pleasant. The White car I built for E36Mylo who purchased an RK tune has been flawless. I will note that.

I’ve been around on BF FI for a long time now. I’ve had a couple TT tunes and an evolving RK tune. All the ‘tunes’ have had issues but which were directly related to hardware problems and the lower octane fuel that we have up here. Doing a remote tune with a hardware set up that isn’t 100% can be very frustrating for the owner and the tuner. And when an engine pops during the process the tuners get a bad name when the car it self was not properly sorted. I popped a hand full of head gaskets and cracked a head with my TT tunes and melted a piston and cracked a head with an RK tune. None of which were the tuners fault. Mostly a result of HP greed and some bad luck. You have to pay to play when you want a car to have three times the original HP.

You have been around long enough to where you shod be a tuner yourself at this point.

I have had a TT 60 lb obd2 tune for 8 years and never had an issue. 2 different engines (did a forged rod and piston build in 2014 for more power) and 3 manifolds and 4 turbos and stock head with stock cams and ported big valve head with Schricks). Runs great with anything. Will likely retune this year with 80 lb injectors for more power potential.

There was one night I was driving and logging, pulled over to a closed Starbucks. Sent him the file, had a revision in my PM within 20min. Remote tuned the sumbitch in the parking lot while hanging with some buddies. LOL

Back in the day, I had to ship my ECU from western Canada to TT in Florida to get a revision loaded. I would assume TT doesn’t require that any more as it was very slow and costly.

I have never had a revision so I don’t know. I assumed I would send him my ECU when I do the 80 lb tune. Or send him another ECU.

Yeah, Zack has been good to me so far so It's great that others have the same experiences. Remote tuning makes it so easy now. Effortless really. Being in IT if I didn't have RDP I would get literally nothing done in a days worth of work but then again I would then have more people...

    The only thing that all tuners lack I think is explanation or whats actually involved in the tune. And I feel that a lot of them don't want to talk about it or explain because either;

    a. most people wont understand it
    b. they don't want their methods/maps known by competitors.

I have always been the type of person who has to know how something works or the way its setup to the T. so when something does go wrong I can have a better idea where to start.

Example being: When I got my tune I thought that I would still have misfire codes for when I needed them. There probably the most convenient part of the OBDII system if you ask me. But with a turbo tune you can't... which sucks and a few other odds and ends. But I guess you don't know if you don't ask.

And onto 'revisions'... I've heard well the tune has worked on X amount of cars perfectly fine so it must be your hardware (and there probably right). But are all cars really the same? I mean all cars have the same exact hardware and built to the same exact spec? And 1 single tune can work on them all exactly the same?

If a tune is done right it is very flexible. Never had a revision. My TT 60 lb blow through tune has run great for 8 years with 4 different turbos, 3 different manifolds, 0.140 MLS motor with stock cams, built low compression motor with big valve head and Schricks, with and without water/meth, with the wastegate disabled for no boost, at 10 psi boost, at 20 psi boost, in 95F weather, in 0F weather, whatever.
