I can't believe I'm writing this, but my wife is getting out of the Ody and she wants a smaller car. She wants a 6 second car to help her indecisive self get through DC traffic, so Subaru Outback is too slow.
She wants an X3. 8^/
The 4 cylinder motor has enough power for her needs, but will the I6 be more reliable given the history of that 3.0l block?
Are there any other longevity issues with these cars?
We still have the RDX and a Merc e class wagon as contenders. Pity the Volvos are rated as POS from a reliability perspective. I wanted a V90. Maybe Mazda will bring the 6 wagon over? We're looking for something big enough for two kids and am upcoming dog...yes, my track days seem to be waning, but the simulator is almost built.

You know that Volvo is Chinese, right? Geely owns them, and several models are actually made in China too. And yes, they're junk.
The X3 is a good vehicle, both engines are fine. The E-class is a great car too. I'm not a Honda kind of guy.

Thanks. Still may try to rationalize the 6 though it's really not needed. Spend the money on real tires instead...
Maybe she'll just have to settle for a 2018 Honda 2.0 Sport?
As you said a 4cyl is enough for her needs. If you didn't need all the room,
I would even say the Civic Type-R, 4cyl with 306hp would suffice.
Here is an informative video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCFaep-7GW8
Oh, the Civic Type R IS fast....but it's clear that there were a dozen people beating the thing with an UGLY STICK for years, before they released it. Ugliest car I've ever seen......

Yes Chris, it is a bit gaudy, BUT-I seem to remember all the similar ugly comments from people concerning the e85-z4,
but after awhile, the look seemed to grow on most everyone!
Nah, the Type R looks like the result of giving a group of ten-year-olds a big crate of wings, spoilers, scoops and meaningless slats, and a Pontiac Aztec.

If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark Donohue
I don't know, maybe I'm just old, with a young spirit living inside me!
because it seems to have that effect on me, or maybe I'm just intrigued by it.
I'd steer away from Honda's LOL not my cuppa tea!

I foresee a used CIVIC TYPE-R in your future!
People seem to change, or tire of the same cup of tea as they age,
unless they are too old to change!!
I'm really into pre 98 BMW's

Sorry guys, just busting chops here, didn't mean to go off-topic.
I wanted to throw out the Accord sport as a viable option-
6sec 4dr family sedan, with a 252HP T-4cyl!
Btw marcva, not a fanboi, I'm just very intrigued by the Type R!
We're leaving a Honda Odyssey MINIVAN, looking at an X3 (wagonesque vehicle since not many people bring wagons to the US. I'd love a 5 series wagon. Not available. Volvo V90 looks nice...POS Honda actually used to make an accord wagon, but Hondas are kind of generic. BTDT (Former integra owner, actually). We need a vehicle for 4 people and an inbound Aussie. Don't want something truck like, but need the rear compartment for the extra passenger. Sedans won't work. Should have clarified the dog thing, that's a binding constraint. Looking at the Tourx and won't consider another VAG product, so no Avants. Subaru is too slow for my wife who wants a ~6 second car to help her cope with DC traffic...Doesn't leave a lot of options.

I might have a slight bias now, but the F31 3 series wagons are very well built.
