Hi guys,
First time posting, please don't flame me
Just got my brand used 2011 335is and I'm completely in love with it - except the maps, which are from 2010 (ew). So being a tech savvy guy I quickly found a 2018 NAV update with a lifetime FSC code (is that frowned upon? not sure so let me know!). However, I've followed the instructions to the tee and my glove box USB port will not recognize the flash drive. I've made sure that the only things on the root of the drive are the pkdgb folder and config.nfm - nothing else on the drive besides that. I've verified the fuse is not blown.
The center armrest USB port will recognize the drive and I can even browse the folder in the radio settings. No luck with the glove box USB though!
From what I've gathered, I can also update maps via DVD; however, I'm not sure how to go about burning DVDs from USB files which are close to 6-7GBs each (I can only find DVDs around 4GBs).
Am I just plain dumb or what? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
No real help other than my 09 glovebox usb is always powered on, it doesn't switch like the dash power ports. My maps are probably 09 as well, haven't found what I consider to be an affordable upgrade esp since google maps updates all the time. If I found a cheap way to do the cars maps I probably would just to modernize it, but the interface is slower than just typing it into my phone.
And a standard dvd allows 4.7gigs, a dual layer will double that but you need a dual layer burner. Most modern burners will do it though, you'll just need the software set to make it happen. Most commercial dvd's are recorded in dual layer to make room for all the extra/commentary junk.
