Yeah, A ? popped up in my head when I read that.

I guess maybe if the timing we're so far off that it caused a lean condition in the cylinder and detonation closed it? I only let the car idle briefly after I re-gapped them though, didn't drive it. Don't know, ha

Like I said probably just me being tired. I get to a point out there in the garage where I tell myself I need to stop (usually when I start to forget where I put tools / parts after I use them ) and go inside. I usually don't listen though

Waiting on a few more parts and I should be able to see how it runs. I'll post a video up:

    So far I've:
    1. Fixed a few frayed wires in the engine harness (none of them we're really terrible though) and I don't think they would have affected the way the car ran. Installed wiring loomed over all of the wires
    2. Fixed oil leaks
    3. Installed Oil press / fuel press sensor and gauges
    4. Replaced Crank sensor with a VDO unit
    5. Replaced coolant sensor
    6. Replaced IAT
    7. Replaced IACV
    8. Replaced Knock Sensors
    9. Replaced Fuel Filter
    10. Re timed engine with a good set of BMW blocks (thanks Kam)
    11. Installed new set of stock gapped plugs
    12. Installed O2 sensor closer to turbo outlet
    13. New MAF sensor (thanks Zack)
    14. All new intake gaskets / TB gaskets
    15. Installed smaller meth injection nozzle
    16. Installed correct BOV spring for 18-20hg (instead of shimming)
    17. Installed MAP sensor for data logging and tapped harness for RPMS. Can now log AFR, PSI, and RPM :-)
And I'm sure there's a few other things I'm missing.
We'll see what happens. Ill post a start up video for you guys once I get the rest of the parts are delivered and installed

If the car doesn't run right after all of this then I'm leaning towards replacing the injectors. If it doesn't run right after injectors I'm thinking something is broken, valve or a lower end problem at which point I'll be pulling the head... After a leak down test

Thanks again for all the help! We will get there

I made a boost leak tester. Tested at the inlet last night and found a leak around the top of the compressor housing. Shouldn't effect how the car idles though.

The fuel injectors appear to be genuine. The seller I bought them from has his cell number listed in his auctions and was very helpful when I called him and he insisted that they are legit. Whether or not they have been compromised from me removing the intake manifold / fuel rail 30 times, I don't know...

I started with NGK BKR7E at .022 gap. The car ran on great on them at first. When it started missing badly I gapped them to .020, didn't help. I just removed them install stock .035 gapped BKR6E's to rule out any problems associated with plugs. Once I get the car idling correctly again I'll regap them for boost. I did find one plug that had no gap at all. I was exhausted when I was gapping them and must have over looked it: (thats not my exact plug, but similar to gap I had in one of mine)

The coils aren't new but I have about 18 of them and they we're known good before and I've tried swapping them one at time and all that jazz... No change. I'll throw a new set in once I can afford them.

I just ran through the entire car again and really, really took my time and replaced a ton of parts, about $800 worth... Zack said fix the oil leaks and install the new MAF and we would go from there. But he's hopeful we should be good here soon.

Tuner said I shouln't need an FPR on wal 255

Waiting on a few parts and I should be able start her. I'm feeling confident. If comes down to and I have to build a motor I have a spare block, hoping to get some more miles out of this one though.

    fingers crossed!
the above plug is longer and thus is kissing the piston, no? I'm counting 18 threads when there should be 12.

Good catch. That is not a plug for our motors. Probably the double thickness HG helped save the motor from damage.

    Whoo!

Good news guys, fired the car up today and its back to way it was. Still has a slight pop when warm at idle but goes away when in the rev range.

but is idling pretty damn well

The slight pop at idle is pretty common. These cars have dropped CR by 1.5 points, doubled or tripled the injector size, and closed the plug gap by 1/3.

Tuner said all of the other e36's he's worked on dont have a pop on 60lb injectors except for one kid who was ironically running ebay units as well. Zack's gonna work with me and help me figure it out though. Hes a good dude!

But it's a relief to have running good again. Now I have to get the windshield replaced for inspection and dial the meth injection in.

Boost is more addicting than crack (and probably more expensive)

    Coming soon,

ordered a new set of injectors from Zack. I dont trust the eBay units, regardless of what the seller tells me.

Also accidentally popped the schrader valve off the fuel rail so I had to order another.
