    Interchangeable door locks?

Hello all! I have an e32 issue that you awesome e34 folks may be able to assist me with.

I have been having some locking issues that all point to a failed door lock. (Parts #1 & 2 in the real oem link). http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=41_0704

I can only find $350+ BMW made replacements and my local junkyard has no compatible 7's. Knowing that the e34 and e32 share parts regularly would I have any luck pulling the part from a 5 series?

If anyone has any experience or advice I would greatly appreciate it!

No experience, but the pics I've found show a different part altogether--the mounting tangs being the most important.
Car-part.com might be worth a shot. Good luck!

p/n is different, your E32 has an own part number. I removed the part and cleaned it with brake cleaner and removed with this all the old, hardened grease, added new grease and it works again. In worst case you can drill the 4 rivets open and clean it inside and instead of rivets use bolts and nuts. http://bmwe32.masscom.net/sean750/do...kMechanism.htm

I don't think so, for sure not the early style with divorced lock actuator shown on the OP's diagram. Some E38 & 39 interchange, rear doors only I believe. First I've heard of any crossover between E34 and E38/9.

@OP, E34 definitely has different PN than E32 but that doesn't always mean it won't work. Perhaps pre '92 E34 would work. I have a few loose I could examine and help you compare.

If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark Donohue

Thanks all for the responses, I greatly appreciate it.
Shogun mentioned in another post that cleaning it without disassembly is possible, I will try that first.

Ross1 if you have time to post a pic of the older door lock that would be awesome.

In the past I'd had pretty good luck at the junkyard with the e32 but its a bit dry at the moment

You're quite correct. I'd put in my old E39's vin by error. Mea culpa.

Here is the right front, early(pre '92) style, not sure which side in question but LF will essentially be a mirror image.early E34 RF door latch 001.jpgearly E34 RF door latch 002.jpgearly E34 RF door latch 003.jpgearly E34 RF door latch 004.jpg

Chaz, try LKQ Pick-Your-Part in Chula Vista first; in Oceanside second. If no luck, talk with Autobahn in El Cajon. Good luck!

My right side one is for sale if you need it, I don't have the other side. You might try Andy(South42) for that.
Andy is the grim reaper of the E34 world and always has a parts car under the knife.
