My window regulator was replaced by the previous owner and they didn’t realign the window properly. I’ve seen this procedure required some tools that are no longer available. How difficult is it to do this without those tools? The top rear edge doesn’t seat in the groove and I get wind noise. And yes I’ve tried just using the adjustment on the bottom of the door.

I have a pdf of the Technicians workbook which includes window adjustment procedures.

I’ve actually looked at that pdf and I was referencing the tools it talks about in it. You can’t get those anymore so just wanted to know if it’s a real pain without them.
Okay I tried adjusting it using the bottom adjustments on the door. They don’t seem to do anything. Like I loosen them, push them out to bring the top edge of the window in, then bolt them back down, no change.
Like the window will move when I move the bolts around but if I let go of them or bolt them back down the window just seems to rebound to where it was regardless of what I did with the bolts on the bottom. Does this mean I probably have to take the door panel off and fix it with those adjustments? I saw there were two “basic inclination” adjustments in the door that were factory set but if someone replaced the window regulator then I assume this means those are now out of adjustment.

Thank you Wuffer for promptly sending me a copy of the PDF. Great support!!

The PDF he has doesn’t explain anything. I found a much better service outline in the E31 factory service manual.

In order from step 1 to finish.
Wow thanks for posting.. My head's still spinning though... I think this needs a full on step by step YouTube video. My driver's door window won't quite go into the track when closing, although I can apply a bit of force to help it in. With the level of complexity this adjustment seems to need, I'm not sure it's worth messing with in my case.

Agreed. Although the service manual illustrated steps are very helpful, the printing quality is horrible. Very hard to read and understand.
My driver's door window has a larger than usual gap to the rear window when in full up position. I can near wind noise but just lived with it cause I'm afraid I might mess it up more if I try to adjust.
I’ll make a YouTube video. I’ll be at the shop tomorrow to tackle this.
I'd (we'd) really appreciate that! There's not too many mechanical things that scare me anymore on most BMWs, but certainly the E31 has me spooked on things like windows and interior trim, heater cores, electronic modules etc. Heck I'm trembling just changing the two batteries in my sole working key right now, praying I don't loose the programming!
Anyway thanks again in advance for making the video, looking forward to it.

Killian665,
Any help you could also provide for door card removal procedure would be 'mighty helpful' as well. THANKS for your help.

Yeah I was using Timms write up for that as well but I’ll make sure to get a visual of it
Nevermind. I’m looking at all this now and even reading the bmw service manual stuff I don’t understand how to make this better. It makes no sense. All the values it lists are within spec and my window still doesn’t line up.
Every adjustment I’ve tried to make changes the nothing. The glass still hits the roof molding at the top right edge.
