Ok I have a 1998 e36 w 207k 5 speed. It has been a great car and I still like it. There are multiple issues but this is the one I need addressed. When the car is started and setting there or when comes to a stop there is a shudder and rattle that you can feel throughout the car. Once you take off it quits. Any ideas?
What is the condition of your brake rotors?
What is the condition of your ball joints?
What is the condition of your inner & outer tie rods?
What is the condition of your motor mounts?
What is the condition of your tires, and when were they last balanced?
Do the RPMs fluctuate with the shudder and vibration?
Can you get a video? I am having a hard time diagnosing your car like I was Helen Keller playing a game of Clue. Happy 500th post to me btw...
Yes there are several things that probably need to be addressed. However while sitting still, tires, brakes and suspension components should not come into play. The motor mounts were replaces within the last 4 months. The rpm,s do not change.
Are you experiencing the vibration with the clutch in or out?
I believe I stated that it was a 5 speed, but it is a 328is. It vibrates in neutral (no clutch)(sitting still) and for the first maybe 1k rpm after clutch is used to take off.
In b4 ICV / Vaccuum Leak
Yep, check your valve cover gasket and vacuum lines for leaks. Those can commonly cause a rough idle. You'll find tons of threads where people improperly install a valve cover gasket so it doesn't seal completely, and are complaining of a very rough idle.

I don't think it is a idle issue but could be wrong. Thx Neverlift, yes the clutch was replaced about year and one half ago (40k miles) buy a Indy shop in Atlanta. I also wondered about the throw out bearing. I will try and get a video but not sure it is loud enough to pick up.
I will have to track down. My son had it done there where he went to college since it broke down there. I live 500 miles from there.
