    creaking steering

Any idea what this might be? Possibly just started with cold weather. Not sure.

Creaking when turning the wheel. Seems to only be when cold. Doing okay as it has been warmer.

If it creaks when you first turn the wheel, that could be the steering guibo, which is a rubber coupler in the column.

How easy is that to change?

The more useful question is WHERE is it squeaking... in the car or under the hood... then we can make useful suggestions.

If its creaking under the hood only when cold, then chances are its the strut mounts.

had this issue on E36/7. Was the plastic assembly that aging and wearing&tearing started to crack.

I removed the steering, and sprayed a little wd-40 on the plastic assembly and moving parts. never heard any more noises from there.
Maybe is the first thing to try, no cost and zero efforts. Take care of electric parts: wd-40 is not dangerous but to be sure leave it pristine.
