Here is the invoice on parts,,lol,, $950 Getrag 245 5 sp used. My spare Getrag 245 5 sp is looking even better,,lol, $153 out the door and it did not come from a trashed car, my suspicion is smog gremlin came up as did with mine and after bar-carb-referree,tested and the cat was centered as correct for the application( a shop misfit), it was inspected and passed no problems and labeled a good running car, bar-carb payed for the State Referee test.. This Getrag 245 5 sp Rebuild $3K, $1.7K cost to Getrag 245 and labor,, $1.3K or so parts. My spare backup has the complete shifter platform, all new seals and the 4 ear holed output flange, which new is $200 or so, the one being auctioned has 3 ear holed output flange.

Good night Irene.
If you have a G245 with the mechanical speedo output (literally only on 1983 320i 5spd's), hang on to them...my 2002 buddy told me about 3-4 years ago they were starting to become a hot commodity.
Needless to say, my G245 has been in my garage since the M42 swap in 2008.

My YouTube Channel: https://youtube.com/c/AdamPE21
The Getrag 245 5 speed was issued from 80-82 only,,83's have a Getrag 240,,245 5 Speed has steel shift forks and is the go to for higher performance M10 Builds, 240 has aluminum shift forks, the E21's -240 and 245 are both mechanical speedometer/odometer units. A few of us here have a spare one.. Lance, Me and a few others, indeed they are getting rarer and price is going up due to supply and demand. Right now I'm studying the bearings of my extra Getrag 245 5 Speed, there are 14 bearings in these in 10 different sizes and I already see improvements to tightened this up and improve input power to output power, you all have a nice day...

I have one and always open to very generous offers. If you have a G245 (actually G240) with the mechanical speedo output (literally only on 1983 320i 5spd's), hang on to them...
The G240 out of E30's that had the M10 are also worth saving. If you have to choose between not driving your car or having a mechanical speedo, I can go without the speedo. (Yes you'll also need the longer driveshaft for pre-'83 E21s)

Yes a mechanical speedometer is obsolete and not needed. I got a manufacturer refurbished TomTom gps for $60 and it tells me my speed and what the posted speed limit is and my route. It displays just like in the picture where it says speed limit 55 and your speed is 51.
