Did you feel that disturbance in the E38 force?

Edwin just posted that he is no longer an E38 owner.

Wow, a legend is stepping down. Is he out for good? hard to imagine. His contribution to e38 has been immeasurable. Thanks Edwin to all you've given us!

He's most likely out for good, but he'll be knocking around. I've been over on BB/E38'ing since 2005 and have shared many adventures with Edwin. If the states carried taxes like they do in his area, I'd have done the same thing most likely. Having just added yet another 750 to the lot, Im around for awhile. Closing in on the NBT upgrade in my DD. About to start the Monsoon speaker swap....if the blasted rain would stop for a day. Come on Spring!

Who is Edwin and why are you sad? He's going on a different path as we all do in life. Carry on.

You forgot to add a smiley face or say "just kidding" or note sarcasm.

I hope you are kidding. Because he has made a massive contribution to a multitude of e38 groups and people. He has traveled multiple times to US to visit board members and work on cars during group outings. He is very knowledgeable and has helped many over many years.

He used to post a lot on bimmerforums, but he has made bimmerboard his home for years now.

Anyway, thought you might want to know a bit more.

Cyclops2, sorry, I'm not kidding. No smiley face either. I'm sure that some folks here have met him and have been helped by him, but I have not. My e38 world goes on in the future knowing what I know about my car with the help of this board and my great mechanic who works on it. That's what "carry on" means. We all will and should.

Dude Edwin is a legend. Just do a search on this forum using his name and see how many hits you get. He's probably got a lot of the stickies in this forum too. I had the good fortune to meet him once when I lived in Atl at one of Cody's meet & greets... fun times sigh .. will miss him for sure, but fortunately a lot and i do mean a LOT of his good work is documented in venues like this board and the bimmerboard.

You can carry on when a friend moves away but doesn't mean you can't take a minute and recognize that friend for what he's done. I never met him but see his fingerprints all over here.

I'm sure you'll move on. Let others say goodbye.

So after Edwin owns this car about a year it'll be safe for DIYers to move in on one of those?

yes...those around long enough knows that having a guy like Edwin move on to the F01 7 series...there will be a DIY trail for those that will eventually end up on that path.

Some forum members are givers...some are takers...some are wall sitters...and some will jump off the wall and tap in from time to time. The more "givers" a forum has...the better off the whole collective will be. When there's nothing but takers...or members that only read and never reply...or never engage in the discourse of discovery...the forum becomes a ghost town. Be thankful for a lively interactive forum...even if there's only a small vocal minority and large silent majority...if forum posts gets "replies"...then the forum stays alive. If all you're getting are "views" but no replies/answers/suggestions/recommendations/etc...then the forum is not of much use and will usually die.

I am sure Qsilver7 remembers as I do when Edwin first bought his E38 and joined Bimmerboard. He was definitely a newbie back then and knew nothing about E38s. But unlike many over the years, he kept on working and learning about multiple versions of the E38 until he became quite the expert. He's still on FB and BB and as he mentioned, will continue to work on E38's on nearly a daily basis.

...it's like the international e38 ambassador has retired. Some of his "US tours" were epic events...even if you didn't get a chance to meet him in person...if you followed the forum and the "eating/boating/car workshops" get-togethers...it was still fun.

Every time I get a chance to enjoy a nice gooey stroopwafel...I think of Edwin.

For the record, I'm not bashing Edwin at all, contrary to some hidden reference's. A long time BMW owner, I' ve been active on the 7 board since 3/17. I got in too late to read or hear of the many exploits of Edwin and all he did to help folks out. I'm glad there are people like him here. These cars are not getting any younger and the day will come where there's to be no Edwin's, or 7' s. I plan to keep my 7 running and enjoying it with add_ons etc and visit this site daily. Peace

    Hi Guys!

Just got a link to this thread, yes it's bittersweet to sell the E38 but it was time and as many US members don't have this problem owning a big heavy car in the Netherlands is painful for the wallet.
Just in tax and insurance (basic coverage) is was 2k a year just to own her (and not talking about the $8 a gallon here)

Owned her for 14 years and as it was time for the new lady to come into my life, it is cheaper in tax, has 150 more horses and is more economical then the trusty V8 she will be missed! (and will see her regularly as I know the new owner and will keep maintaining her)
As mentioned I will remain working on these ladies on a daily basis as I am the leading expert in Europe on these cars and they come from all over to get some love or have issues fixed others can't seem to find.

If any of you need advise/help I have a facebook page: E38 forum, feel free to join!

    Keep these ladies running!!

    Later!

Have a technical question, don't send me a PM but post it on the board so others can benefit from it!

Seeing you post here again made me fall off my chair. It's an honor and pleasure to hear from you after all this time! I wish you luck with the F01 - I had one and they can be amazing cars. They remind me a lot of the E38, and I know you'll love it. I don't like change, so this is oddly difficult for me, but taxes make a lot of decisions for us sometimes :P

Thanks for stopping by bimmerf. your footprint is all over this site from years ago. I was at bimmerboard for years before coming here because the thread posting method is much cleaner for a long term build project (and do I ever have a long term build project; 5 years now, lol).

Many of us thank you for your contributions to e38s around the world. I referenced a video you made about fan clutches just a couple days ago.

Wish you all the best on your new personal change, and look forward to even more contributions you'll make to the BMW enthusiast world.

You mentioned FB forum? can you give a link? I am not quite sure which one you hang out on; is it e38 empire?

I found out about Edwin when my ‘01 started to whine when the a/c was activated. I was depressed as neither the local shops or the BMW dealer offered me a solution except replacing the a/c compressor. But his evac and recharge method solved the issue.

I am also leaning towards a newer turbo BMW. But will keep the beast until I move my job closer to my house.

Hey Edwin, never worked with you directly but definitely used your posts for help. My e38 owes part of its life to you.

Good luck with the F01, im also thinking that direction as my e38 rolls over 211k miles and needs even more love.
