2004 530i,3years and 20k miles ago a cold start attempt resulted in a huge intake backfire.It blew out a chunk
of #6 cyl. intake runner.Installed a used man.ran fine until yesterday. Cold start, huge boom, ruined int. manifold.
Anybody seen this before.121k total miles on the vehicle. 6 speed manual.

So your engine should be an m54. There was a problem with e46 injectors that would wash down the cylinders because the computer was allowing the injectors to stay open to long and this would happen in cold weather, then you would start the engine with the gas plead pushed to the floor. Eventually it would start The fix was update the dme programming. I wonder if it's a result of to much fuel and vapors igniting. I would up ddate the software.
Thanks Jbird for the info.Pcv and DISA parts have been addressed previously,so this may be an avenue to persue.
