    Cool 06 e60 530i navi

hey guys how's it going I'm fairly new here been browsing around on and off because I recently got my hands on a 06 530i. my question is I'm sure it's been covered but I've browsed and searched yet still wondering.... it doesn't have a navigation so if I were to add the Android 8.8" navigation is that a just direct plug play thing. or if I were to hunt down the parts for the unit off a salvaged bmw, ( I've actually found a few around my area) I love the android look and feats it has but also do not mind going OEM given it doesn't cost an arm n a leg but from the posts I've seen it does. so any feed back and suggestions would be greatly appreciated fellas and cheers.... mods? not yet it's stock now but I do plan to get a tune from Turner and an intake.

The 06 e60s' Navigation is integrated into the CCC, Car Communication Computer, unit and is DVD based. BMW, in the later part of 2015, determined the DVD based Navigation had reached, as they call it, end of life cycle and no longer support it. Ie, they no longer issue updated navigation disks. The 2010 e60's were released with the CIC, Car Information Computer, Navigation system. This platform is thumb drive updatable for updated maps. So this would be the OEM platform to look at or one of the 3rd party units.

Keep looking at threads. This is all covered really well.

Bottom line is that CIC upgrade is the BMW way to upgrade, but that is a $4K - $6K solution. The android replacement units keep/use your existing car controls, but require that you already have aux. input activated. My take is that if you have aux. already, then just get a cradle and use a high end smartphone to do all your navigation/multimedia stuff. Works great, and you can get a hell of a phone for less than any radio upgrade option.

I would add that where an E60/E61 screen lives, it is right in the middle of the dash, and pretty far recessed. I can't imaging having that as a touch screen would be much fun. You gotta be able to reach things in order for it to work well.

Another cool thing that makes using a good smartphone my preference, is that now you can get bluetooth backup cameras. That was really the one big thing you had to give up when using a phone, but now you can have a backup camera with pretty much any mobile device to display it.
