Hi guys, noob here.
So we just picked up this 2000 323i, bit of a deal I guess. Guy say battery was dead just because it had been sitting a while. Started very well with a boost, drove just fine the 30 miles or so back home, but that didn't seem to be enough to charge the battery. Snowy day, all electricals were on and doing fine.
Now, on any other car I look at the battery and alternator, but completely new to bmw and, well, wondering if I should check something else first.
Thanks.
Lead acid batteries don’t like being fully discharged. The chemistry changes and the lead plates get damaged. You need a new battery. Go to Walmart for a new battery.
Yea, that's what I figured. Thanks.
Also when a battery is completely discharged, the electrolyte becomes water and then the battery freezes into a block of ice. A frozen battery will not take a charge. If it is new, you can pull it out and let it thaw inside and then charge it and see if it works but freezing damages batteries. You will probably need a new one.
