Hey Guys,
This is the first time i have posted anything on a forum for years, im still a little new to this but i wanted to let you guys know i just received a set of PB Coilovers for my E31 this morning, i cant wait to have these fitted late next week and will keep you guys updated on how i get on with them. Ive followed a few posts about coilovers for our cars for a while but there was never really a proper off the shelf solution up until recently. Hopefully these are a great balance between quality and cost. They were well packed and arrived very quickly, also look very good quality. Hope this helps all those out there that have been looking for a solution such as this.
Nice and thanks for sharing! On their site and for the 8 coilovers kit, they had a note that reads: *Please note this coilover kit requires welding for installation
I wonder what needs to be welded as the kit looks complete according to your pictures?
Nice! Would love some pictures and insights during the install. I'm also wondering about the welding.
The new strut tube will need to be welded into the steering knuckle or upright after old tube has been removed.
What are the spring rates front and rear?
What is the overall length of strut?

The spring rates are below, apparently they lower upto 50mm which is more than enough, its purely for street use. Ive already handed them over to my mechanic for installation, hes going to take plenty of pics so will post these once i have them installed.
Front: 210mm, 10kgRear: 260mm, 15kg
Any update on these? Did you find that the rear spring was too long?
Thanks.
Excuse us on the other side of the pond that speak lbs/in for spring rates.
Please shine some light on my assumptions below or if you have a specification sheet please attach it in a reply.
I'm not clear on the spring rates given the info you provided, as it would seem a rate is not included in the numbers provided.
I'm guessing the Front: 210mm is an unloaded or loaded spring length of 8.27" and the 10kg is really 10kg/mm? Which would be approximately 560lb/in.
Rear: 260mm = 10.24" for the spring length and 15kg/mm = 840lbs/in.
Given, 10kg is only 22.2 lbs, I would anticipate the missing metric spring rate denominator is "mm" (spring rate = kg/mm) and with 25.4mm in an inch (22.2 * 25.4 = 564) or a front spring rate of 560lbs/in.
Thanks,
Wait a minute, base 60 system, until you get to the Day, base 24. But, but.. why? Do you guys down-under have metric clocks?
I didn't say, I didn't understand the metric system. I was requesting the complete metric spring rate value, yet to be provided.
Bit of trivia;
The USA passed the first Metric weights & measures legal law in 1866, in 1975 passed the Metric voluntary usage law and in 1988 passed the Metric preferred law.
IMHO, I would say after 152 years the future is a long ways off as the metric system of weights & measures has yet to gain much if any acceptance by the USA gov or public. See what the UK did to us or are we just hard headed? America First? stupid concept.. at least our currency is base 10!! YES.
Give that, it is only a problem when someone from Australia tries to help. Just kidding!!
But, I bet if someone blows in Trump's ear, he can make it happen. Nah!! I bet he doesn't understand the metric system, Nm is what? and what is a Newton? don't answer that it will just confuse Trump when he reads this reply!!
I was trying to say, we in the USA are still inch, pound, gallons, miles & engine HP people (not my choice) and the metric system is not commonly used or useful in the USA for vehicle value comparisons.
So, conversion of the metric spring rate values to Lbs/in. helps with the established vehicle spring rate knowledge in the USA.
Always verbose!!
Thanks for seeing the humor in it all.. More laughing at my plight.
Actually, the countries using the Metric system get the last laugh.
For us its 5280 feet or 1760 yards in a mile which makes calculating in MPH not so clean!!
This is how is works; there are 128 ounces or 4 quarts or 231 cubic inches in a gallon, also 16 ounces in a pound but a gallon does not weigh 8 pounds, but there are 7.48 gallons in a square foot!
Easy to forget, harder to remember.
Here, we live and die by the weight and measures reference chart!!
What gov could be so cruel as to subject the people to such mayhem. No wonder the kids fail at math and science when the hardest part is the weight and measures system.
Every time I want to simply convert cubic inches to cubic feet the first thing I need do is calculate the conversion factor of 1728 cu-ft = 1 cu-ft. Who can remember that number?
Yep, you get the last laugh!!
Don't forget us poor blighters who had to change (at the age of Thirteen) from 12 pennies in the shilling and 20 shillings in the pound complete with pennies, tanners, florins, thrupences, half-crowns, guineas and ha'penny's to the decimal system!
The UK still uses both decimal and metric alongside each other......

Q-How long do these rafters need cutting?
A-12' 3" and a couple of mil.
FFS!!!
My tyre pressures are 2.7bar+a lb or two.
And while we are at it, 1 UK(imperial) gallon = 1.2 US gallons. That must be why our gas costs £6 ($8)/gallon
Oh dear. What a can of worms I've unleashed.
K2ups
Sorry, got sidetracked there, the COs look good. I would like to see more info/spec on the "weld", don't want any pigeon s**t there!
Wait a minute, base 60 system, until you get to the Day, base 24. But, but.. why? Do you guys down-under have metric clocks?
Well yes, ish.
seconds are the base, with multiple and sub multiples in x10, kiloseconds, milliseconds etc. Easy... Midday becomes 43.2 kiloseconds. ENOUGH!
NASA lost the Mars Polar Lander because some things were calculated in feet, others in meters. It turned off it's engines early because it thought it was already on the ground.
On another note, any update on the coil over install?

I wish the USA had switched to the metric system years ago. Have you ever worked on any GM cars/trucks from the 90's? Engine/ powertrain in metric, chassis in SAE! WOW, holy confusion batman!
That being said, this one always makes me laugh:

That is funny!

OP:
Are those camber adjusters up top?
