is <1MM of play on water pump normal?

Commuting home my tensioner pulley grenaded and took out both belts.

While inspecting for damage I noticed the water pump has <1MM of play in/out, is this normal?

it is a metal Graf water pump with less than 10K miles on it

if not normal i'd rather not remove it for faster repair

    thanks!

Thrust Paly of a millimeter? No. The water pump should not have any play in any direction.

    I would say it's fine.

I hope you were able to pull over and turn the engine off super quick!

    You were right

Bought and installed a new Graf water pump and it also had same 1mm play.

Oh well can’t go wrong replacing cooling on these cars ahead of schedule.
