My 2011 328xi this year started to throw a 4x4 warning ("4x4!" Yellow light on the dash) and traction slipping warning light when driving uphill on snow and ice. This only happens on snow and ice and does not occur other times driving the car.
I am thinking that it could be the transfer case actuator motor, but it does not have the error codes other have indicated such as the dsc and abs warning codes.
I'm wondering if anybody has any ideas what may cause just the 4x4 warning light only on ice and snow going up inclines.
Just pulled the codes from my car and I'm getting a 5dec code for the dynamic stability control.
Ugh. Nothing easy on these cars!
Thanks in advanced.
Cheers,
B.D.

I'm going to be the one to ask...
Is it possible there is slippage of the tires on the ice when you are going uphill as indicated?
Are you possibly thinking that there is a disproportionate amount of power going to a single tire, thus triggering this fault when it wouldn't otherwise occur?
