GM Bimmerforums, I'm new to the forum. I own a 1997 840ci love the car, having some issues with the driver side door handle and the general module. Dose anyone have or know where I can obtain these parts. I've checked several salvage parts no luck thus far. Thanks
Search reloem enter the last seven of your vin and start using the parts film
You might want to consider having your General Module rebuilt. Member "EEDegreetoDrive" here on the forums rebuilds them for a very reasonable price. Just search and you will find plenty of info.

Welcome! There are lots of folks who know more about your car here than anywhere else. If you're looking for parts, jclausen has it right - go to RealOEM and put in the last 7 digits of your VIN - this is almost (almost) identical to what the dealers have - will get you part numbers that you can then search all kinds of suppliers for (your local dealer, ECS tuning, Bavarian auto FCP Euro among many others - Google is your friend). In addition, there are lots of resources available here - as mentioned, EEDegreeToDrive does General Module repairs, or if you wish to try yourself, there are tutorials on here (I'll link to mine, but there are others, I believe: https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...1#post23677351 ), I believe that there is also quite a bit on door handle repairs on here as well, but I don't have links handy for those. Check the "8 series information and help" pinned post at the top of this forum for good links (TimM's meeknet.co.uk site will save you lots of time). The search function on here is not terrific, but it does work, and you should generally at least attempt to see what has been said about an issue before posting (you can use Google to search the forum a bit easier by appending "site:bimmerforums.com" to your search in a regular Google search). Good luck and happy wrenching!
Door handle is NO LONGER AVAILABLE (Ended).

If the exterior handle is broken off, good luck. If you just can't get the door open, then PM Hyper here on the forums. He makes kits to permanently repair the door operators. Works great! Ask me how I know...

Thanks for the welcome Masbury, the driver side door will not open from the out side. will open from the in side.
Hey Thanks TxGR8White for the information. this is the door assembly kit??
My '91 was the same way. The 'pot' metal lever and shaft weaken and develop cracks preventing mechanism from working properly. Search for member Hyper and his new brass components usually solve the issue. I changed out the parts he sent and handle works fine now. Did not require any other repairs, but I did change out the speakers while I had door apart.
And, search for EEDegreeToDrive, he offers a very inexpensive GM service of replacing old capacitors. And, he can also solder in new capacitors in door module while you are doing handle repair.
Thanks for the welcome Spandrel, awesome information. looks like have come to the right forum
