I bought one of those USB cigarette lighter adapters so that I could charge my iPhone while driving my 05 Z4. It works fine in my Buick everyday car but won't work in the Z4 lighter assembly. The lighter itself works; very fast in fact. Anyone have a similar experience and figure out a fix? Is there a USB outlet somewhere in the car that I have missed. I'm a new owner.

I have found some of those USB adapters are flaky and won't work. I would try another brand as I have one that works fine in mine (nothing fancy, just a cheap Ebay product).
In my old M Coupe, I had the BMW branded dual charger (LINK) and it worked but my generic charger would not. I believe it has to do with the depth of the charger and hitting the correct contact points in the cigarette/12v outlet.
Yes- a low profile charger usually does best. This one would work very well I'm sure...

I’ve had this as well, I have a few usb chargers and none would work in the cigarette lighter socket in the centre console but would work in the other sockets. It’s to do with the profile of the adapter near the centre contact, if that doesn’t taper or step inwards and if the centre contact isn’t long enough then it doesn’t make contact with the centre contact of the socket.
The centre console socket is an actual cigarette lighter socket so if you look inside it has prongs in the sides which stop some adapters from being pushed down all the way.
Please come back and let us know for others like you in the future....
Has anyone had success with this? I have 2 different adapters and have had no luck getting them to work. I can hold them in a set position and they will work but otherwise that are useless. Frustrating on long drives where we use the phone for navigation. Using a Samsung Android phone if that matters.

Does anyone have a answer? I like to join in group events and my "navigator" uses their phone to know if we are still on course. the phone battery doesn't last 5 + hours when driving around. I need to get an adapter that works. Can anyone assist?
Check fuses first and then try a different adaptor
