    oil canister swap

I want to swap the 86 m30 e24 canister to either the e34 or e32 m30 upright oil cooled canister.

    The two questions are:
    1) If I connect the lines to the auto trans cooling section of the auto trans radiator will the oil pressure
of around 60psi be to much for the radiator to handle. I don't know what the auto trans pressure was going to the radiator?

    2) There is a third port on the canister. Two threaded ports I'll assume go to a cooler.
It's the third port (compression fitting ), originally where was that hose hooked up to?

The diagram shows a newer canister that bolts on a bracket not to the block. It's the hoses I need to know.
    hoses 5 & 6 go to a cooler.

Hose 15 goes to the third port on the canister. Where does the other end of hose 15 (with the banjo bolt) go to. What's it used for?

    Thanks for any info.

The "new" oil filter canister will have no effect on trans fluid pressure. Your trans cooler lines should go direct to the radiator with no consideration for the oil filter canister. I dunno. That's the best I have.

    Hey George,

How's it goin'? I swapped to a five speed and thought I could change to an upright oil canister to ease

the filter change and get some cooling for the engine oil @ the same time.

Missed you @ the last "Fest". Hope you can make it this year.

So, are you trying to use the trans cooler in your radiator as a little engine oil cooler? Assuming you still have the auto rad in the car?

I have an E32 upright oil filter on my 85 E24. I can point out that this will definitely hit your ABS pump module. The ABS module will need to be moved away from the engine about 3/4". I was able to do this by modifying the brackets and reforming all of the brake lines.

I do not use the oil cooler option.

If you would like, I can get some pics of where the interference is.

    Dschart,

    Pictures will be definitely appreciated.

    Thank you.

Did you use a spacer between the block and canister?

No spacer needed in my case. I have a B35 block. I think the spacer will cause additional clearance to be required, enough to probably force an ABS delete. Or you could switch the ABS pump to the different style used in 88 and 89 with the B35 engines.
