528xi feels like bambi on anything slippery.

When I hit a patch of snow or ice, the car feels like the tires want to go in different directions, leaving a feeling of instability....

152K miles..... alignment? worn out suspension?

Tires and your suspension is likely blown out unless it was replaced around 100k.

    Been running these:

    https://www.pirelli.com/tires/en-us/...ll-season-plus

Nothing has been replaced suspension wise, just had it inspected, all seems to be OK from an un-loaded wheels in the air perspective.

Those Pirelli's don't have enough cross-sipes to be effective in snow; the unobstructed longitudinal channels are great for rain and lack of road noise but do nothing to help the tires dig in.

Look at these, for example: https://www.pirelli.com/tires/en-us/...nturato-winter

Those have more edges, sipes, open blocks etc. to provide traction on snow.

I guess that could be all it is, but it just seems strange the way the car feels by simply passing over a slick spot.

The suspension components on these cars last around 80k. So you're at twice their lifespan. Poor condition suspension components will also lead to poor handling.

It is simply amazing what a difference the right tires make.

This is something we had problems with on our Subaru Outbacks; "ghostwalking". In snow, with the wrong (i.e. oem) tires it feels like the rear end sidesteps a few inches for no apparent reason. Plus it acts like a RWD, kicking the rear out when going around corners etc. Many have tried various suspension mod's but in nearly all situations, getting better tires was the solution.
