    Which brake bias proportioning valve?

Which brake bias proportioning valve? In order of increasing cost; Wilwood, Tilton, AP Racing.
The AP Racing is 2-3x the cost of the Wilwood, but it also advertises as having a wider range of pressure adjustment, I think.

    For an E36 M3.

FYI, I purchased a Wilwood. Seemed to have the same adjustment range as the much more expensive AP Racing piece. I'll report back when I install.

I have the Wilwood click type in my car, works fine.
    I rarely touch it.
When I want a little less rear,,, back it off a click or two,,, all good.
I dont think you need a huge range of adjustment on these things unless your brake system is flawed at the genetic level.

I use the lever type - it's fast and easy to be positive about what you've done in the chaos of the race.

Fair warning, I've removed the ABS due to class rules. I still use the stock (328) master, however.

I like the screw type (put a white or yellow mark on the adjuster, otherwise you can't tell where it is). I typically moved it about half a turn either way from "feels good" depending on conditions and it seemed to make a small but noticeable difference in bias. The lever type seemed like it'd be hard to really dial in and get a repeatable setting.

FWIW, I can't imagine needing more adjustment range than the Wilwood valve gives, I think it can move the knee point up to like 1500 psi, which is typically around peak pressures you find in a braking system. I ran it about 40% the way down its adjustment range FWIW.

Quick question rather than starting a new thread. If ABS is not disabled can the adjuster valve just be added in the line to the rear brakes, or does it need to be plumbed in between master cylinder and the ABS module? 95 M3 w/ a 3 channel system. Thanks.

After reading how the Teves MKIV ABS system works, I'm convinced the ABS is purely pass through until one of the wheel sensors sends a signal that a tire is starting to slip. So, I'm mounting my valve in the rear brake line (mine is 95 3-channel also).

I'd have my doubts on a brake proportioning valve/regulator working well when hammered with ABS pressure pulsations. I would have put it before the ABS pump.

Fair point. I also have questions about how it would work located prior to ABS pump. In the E36 ABS, an inlet solenoid blocks the inlet side of the pump whenever ABS is activated, so the proportioning valve would be temporarily removed from the circuit. I don't see a problem with this, until the ABS turns back off?? Not sure.

I think the only way to know for sure is to try both. So, I'll pick one, and if it works, be happy.

With ABS? If yes, did you install prior or after ABS pump?
