COG Light on after engine swap

Evening everyone have a 2001 BMW 330I, Customer dropped it off couple years ago for a blown head gasket and never heard from them again. It ended up having the typical problems with the head bolt threads pulling out of the block so it sat. Finally last month came across a good deal on an engine just swapped it it in she fires up smoothly but the COG is on and staying on. I do have a pretty High end scanner I can see 17 different modules and interact with them but i am not seeing a transmission/EGS module. It is an automatic. Current faulted modules Engine/DME - Signal CAN EGS. Activation, O2 heater before cat Bank 1 & 2, Activation, O2 heater after cat Bank 1 & 2. Cluster/KO - KOMBI: No CAN Identification (EGS) HVAC Control/IHKA - AUC sensor Lighting/LSZ - Brakelight left faulty Rain/Light Sensor /RLS RLS Control unit

Any ideas on what way to look would be greatly appreciated

    Two Z3 Roadsters
Did you remove the transmission when you did the engine swap?

There are several fault codes listed in your post about no "CAN EGS". Would suggest that you check all connectors are plugged in on the transmission and EGS.

If the codes are still there, then trace the wiring looms back towards the DME and KOMBI looking for wiring damage.

There is only one thing more pleasurable than working on a Z3, that's driving it top down on a fine day.

ok so far i have gotten is pins 1,7 & 8 supply power to the module, fuse F4 that supplies key power to pin 8 was blown, replaced fuse and as soon as key power was applied blew the fuse again, unplugged the connector and pin 8 had under 50 ohms to ground i then ran a dedicated wire to pin 8 removing it from the shorted circuit with an inline 30 amp fuse and it blew again as soon as i plugged it into the module.

The trans cog will light if the MAF is unplugged or has faulty wiring and cause the engine to run in limp mode. Also check the gear selector wiring.

Pin 9 where ever it goes the car does not really care lol. put 200 miles on it now with it depinned from the connector no codes, no can issues, no blown fuses, everything seems to work and it drives great
