I will be starting to look for a Z4 when I get back to New Hampshire, in March. I currently own a 1997 328IC, and a 2008 328Ic. I'll be selling the 97, which is in mint condition for a 20 year old car. My question is what should I be looking for in a Z4, as far a mechanical problems. What should have been replaced on a used Z4. I can remember on my E36 328IC, the first thing that went out was the radiator, water pump, thermostat, and goose neck into the thermostat housing. These repairs circled around BMW not designing a metal impeller on the water pump. Once the pump is changed all the other problems are gone.
As far as I know the E89 doesn't really have any issues like the plastic cooling systems of the past. Someone else may want to chime in. I'm at 50k with no issues. Other then the massive BMW recall.
Do you have a preference on what generation you may want? The E85 is 2003-2008 and E89 2009+. I have 2 E85s presently and have been through them extensively. The E89 power roof and new power plants are exciting and the E85 is lighter and a little easier to work on yourself. If you choose E85 try to find a 2006-2008 model. Just my two cents.
I think I'll be look at the E89. Right now I have a 97 E36 328IC. Between the top problems, and the electric seat adjustment, I'm not looking for a "classic"
