    Selling our 850

    Hi Guys,

Time has come to part ways with our '96 850. I want to thank all of you who have helped me keep it on the road and for the great camaraderie. This is a great community of car enthusiasts and I am forever grateful for knowledge that was always happily shared.

We will be listing it on Bring a Trailer this week. We inherited the 850 from my Father-in-law George Carlin, so we are expecting more then the usual interest in our sale. We have also reached out to some collectors so it may sell privately before the auction concludes.

It's been a blast and once again thanks to all of you.

    Sincerely,

    Bob and Kelly McCall

I've been to two wrenchfests with the 850. Great time at both. Everyone there was extremely helpful and fun to be with.

Gonna miss the car but it's time to let someone else enjoy it.

With all the press you're giving it, I suspect the auction on BAT is going to pay off big time. By that, I mean it will sell for far more than the actual value of the car because of the provenance.
I also think that if the buyer ever tries to sell it again, they likely won't recover that "celebrity premium" because they are not Kelly... even though its the same car.
I'll likely bid on it again, but once it gets much over "semi ridiculous" I'll just shake my head...
...besides, does it really look like I need another E31?

    ^ Do you have 4, 5, or 6 E31s?

Kidman's 97 in a shade of blue had low miles and was $34K asking a few years ago.

Miles do not mean anything when it comes to an E31....

I doubt the new buyer will part ways with the car anytime soon. It’s a piece of history with a well loved famous owner. I wouldn’t sell it if I were Bob and Kelly to be honest. It will gain more value with time, financial as well as sentimental.
It’ll bring well over $50K at the rate it’s going now. (It might even fetch CSi money solely due to George’s name). The bidders are at war. The wealthy guys and classic car dealers are waiting for the last 10 minutes of the auction.
Many loved George Carlin so they’d want to own his unique car, an E31 out of all cars. Taste and class.

Well done! $32,000! Hopefully this elevates the price of everyone else's E31.

Nicely done Cartoonz. Your last two bids were excellent. I thought to bid 32k when Balls countered your 29,250.

It has been fun following this auction even just as a spectator, and seeing it featured on Salomondrin was pretty awesome (200k+ views already!).

When Empty_Balls_McGinty dropped out at 31k, I had a hard cieling of 32k... then came some other person at 31.5 who gave up after 1 shot.
I honestly thought there would have been more fight in that bunch than I was willing to take on... but, fortunately for me, there was not.
