Tire Survey

I'm looking to put new set on once we thaw out around here. I wanted to ask what you all are running and what you think about them. Really curious about some of the less known "performance" offerings from such brands as Toyo, Hankook, Sumitomo and Falken. I'd love another set of Bridgestone Potenza's, but I run 245/45-17" on 8.5" wheels and price is a concern this time round.

I have Toyo Proxes hi-performance all seasons on the euro. I've been really pleased with them. Their dry weather performance is very solid, they perform well in the wet and wear well.
They were recommended by Paul at the Radial Tire Company here in Silver Spring

george, ive been sellin hankooks to my customers for the bang for your buck for a few years now. Havent had much experience with their performance tires, but all the ones ive sold are lasting longer than the sumitomos and falkens.

With how miles these cars go per year, i agree its tough to justify spending a boatload on tires for them to just rot out. Get something cheap and sticky, burn them off every couple years and have fun.

Vic. Quiet is a good component. My suspension has all the "soft" tuned out, so I will never see that no matter what tire I buy.

Got it.. I have Hankook Ventus at the rear and Firestone Indy 500 up front, they are fantastic tires. Bridgestone bought out Firestone, fyi.

I was looking at firestone Firehawk Indy's myself.

I got some cheap closeout Riken Raptors which should be good enough for my recently refinished RIAL's. Can't wait to mount them in the warmer weather.

I have Toyo Extensa HP's on my E24 right now, and they've been the best tire I've had thus far. I've done a combination of Continental/Achilles and a full set of Conti's before, which were nice, but they wore much quicker than the Toyos (granted, I am running crazy toe/camber with the airride suspension). The ride was much nicer as well, and I have a little more confidence in these while on the backroads than I did the Conti's. I sold Toyo for a couple of years and truly understood how great they were when I put these on the car.
If/when I change things up with my wheel/tire combo, I'm definitely sticking with Toyo.

Hey George, I used the Falken tires a few sets worth. Very affordable but they are a soft tire so the mileage was low. Like JD said, buy low and have fun burning them off.

I've had Hankook (Ventus V12's?) on Cosmo for several years, and they've been very good.

Look at Consumer Reports for their evaluation of tires. They evaluate wet and dry performance, rolling resistance, noise, etc. I've always found it a good place to start.

Im looking as well. Youtube has lots of videos and comparison testing.
I have had Toyo T1 Plus on the car for years and they have never let me down on the road. On the track however get a bit loose once hot.
What I'm considering now are all summer tires not all season.
Toyo R1R or T1 Sport, Conti Extreme Contact Sport or BF Goodrich (Michelin) G Force Sport Comp 2.
Michelin Pilot Sport 4 are good however not available in Canada in 16".
These are all premium tiresLondon St. damage etc 050.jpg, depends on your budget.
Let us know how you make out. I will not be buying mine until the big thaw!

Ron. I like Falken tires. I've had 2 sets on other cars. They are on my radar.

Lol. So many varied opinions on tyres. Personally if they make them in USA for 17” rims I’d look at the Michelin pilot sport 4. Or the superseded pilot super sports.

They are moderately priced for the performance u get. I’ve got them now on 3 different cars.

Bargain tyres offer good grip but do drop off once they wear abit. My Michelin super sports have been on my work Ute and the fronts have lasted over 40000miles with very little performance drop off. By the look of the wear indicators they will prob be good for another 15-20000 further miles.

The michelins in both ps4 ps4s and pss are all great in the wet

I just purchase a $185 programa SI board from Florida for $185 U.S.
By the time I paid for shipping plus tax plus converting the dollar it cost me $330 Canadian.
I would hate to see how much it would cost to import 4 tires!
Probably going with the Toyo T1 Sport.

What about a day trip to a tire dealer in NY State? About a 3 hour drive.

Just bought a 1985 M635csi gray market car.
Gotta ditch the metrics..bought a set of 8&9" type 32 wheels, thinking I can run 235/45//x17 in front and 255/40x17 on the back.
I want to stay around 200 for the treadwear number and have come up with this list

I'm leaning toward the Firestones or the Continentals...Thoughts?
