Well, it's up and running. Amazingly, with no coding work, the stability control is functioning perfectly !! The few dash light issues have been resolved. However, the one nagging issues is E46 M3 code 106. The reason I specify the model is that the codes are different for the M vs non-M cars (I assume because the very different DMEs). The specific code is "106 Signal, brake light switch".
I have used newTIS.info to run down the wiring info. So, the fuse is good, the brake lights work, and I have swapped the switch with my 2002 E39 as they are identical. The problem is not the switch. The cruise control light does come on, but the cruise is not working. I have to assume the the lack of signal is telling the cruise control to think the pedal has been depressed.
So, the questions -- anyone know if this is a coding issue, and is anyone familiar with this?
Have you checked to see if the signal is reaching Pin #24 on the DME?

It will be a Blue with Red stripe and yes power. Also have a look at #28 for that should be a ground Brown with green. Check plug number X60004 40 pin black connector.
Are you getting and codes in the LCM? Can you turn on the brake lights thru your test equipment?

I am sort of confused. The diagram does show pin 28 leaving the brake light switch and going to the DME, and is brown/green. The blue/red is power, but that said, the car's lights are all operating properly, including brake lights. (I will not be able to check the car until tomorrow.)
No codes from the LCM that I can see with me Snap-On Solus. I have a new version of INPA coming and that should get me deeper into the car. BTW, I swapped the brake light switch with m E39, and the E46 still throws the code and the E39 does not, so the switch can be eliminated as the source of the problem.
Got it, switch is good.
Now as you do know it is sending that signal to two places: DME and LCM. What I am worried about is that even though the wiring diagrams say that is where those two wires should be on both models, I just wanted to make sure you are getting the ground, power and they are in the correct plug.
Also when INPA comes in, it will tell you if the fault is current or sporadic, and check the pending codes too, for Solus doesn't do that as far as I know.

Correct, and while it is thinking that you still have a M54-B25 under the hood, you may have to change the VIN in the DME, EWS, and LCM. I would check with a local tech or over on the General BMW Mechanical Help subforum, as there are several dealership level techs on there.

"while it is thinking that you still have a M54-B25 under the hood"..... What is "it" referring to.
EWS has been disabled but the EWS is showing a code for a dissimilar VIN. Given what the EWS does, I doubt that it is root of the 106 brake switch code and 139 cruise interrupt codes.
I will check on realigning the DME and LCM VINs.
What I do NOT want to do is kill the DME by fiddling with the VIN in there. I would think that realigning the instrument cluster and LCM would be safer.
But, I am proud to admit that I am smart enough to know when I am NOT !!!!
I would PM this guy: 328 Power 04 He is a guru with the DME's and other ECU's on that car.
