Radio signal (microwave) from inside dash region every 7-10 seconds on e39 530i

Any ideas what could be causing a regular radio signal to be sent from somewhere beneath/inside the car dash? - behind central air vents? It happens about every 10 seconds and lasts about 4 seconds. I know because I have a microwave RF detector. I want to kill this but not sure how or what is doing the transmitting... The car has a hands free phone kit (aftermarket?) so wonder if this is doing it. I don't need nav or phone setup so if there were an easy way to pull a fuse on all these functions that would be great and might solve this. Here is the car from bmwvin.com:

Thanks. I took out fuse 58 in the back of the car above the battery (touring model) and this stopped the microwave transmission. It also of course turned off the radio and onboard computer so this isn't the fix I'm looking for.

Presumably hands-free is an aftermarket mod as it's not listed as an option for the car? Rather than pulling the dash to pieces to try and find this tiny module wherever the previous owner installed it is anyone aware of a fuse to pull or a wire to cut power to the whole phone system while keeping the radio and onboard computer and sat nav alive?

I think you’re going to have to start pulling the head unit as it seems the BT module is on the same fuse as the head unit. PM denniscooper. He’s an E39 guru.

    Hi

Marco - I'm not so knowledgeable when it comes to installation of various modules for the potential many electronic gadgets which could be in a car! This also I suspect isn't an E39 specific issue as well!

E36elf - You'll need to begin fault finding by pulling fuses to see if the microwave emission stops and then begin to trace wires to whatever the source could be. Just a stab in the dark and someone perhaps installed a car alarm microwave sensor incorrectly ? Else it might be a faulty unit of 'something' that is failing and causing the output or perhaps maybe even a tracking system of some sort.

    Cheers, Dennis!
