Hi,
2005 - M62 engine (Sorry)
Where does the auxiliary water pump get its power from? Is the power to the pump constant or intermittent? Having issues with an aux. water pump that gets power for 4 seconds then gets no power for 20 seconds. Repeats this cycle. Blows cool-ish air when at idle. Pump works ok.
Any info would help please.
Thanks

Let's go with what model year is your e53...because no one will know what an M63 engine is.
These are the e53 models and engines. Again, a model year would help us help you better...especially when the engine designation is a typo.

Hi, thanks for the reply. It's a 2005 4.4L
Ahh...thanks for the update. That would be a N62 (the "n" stands for new generation).
I'm not exactly sure...but it may get commands from the IHKA to activate. Below is a link to the BMW TIS...if the info at this link doesn't give you what you need...the site is live as well as the breadcrumb links at the top of the linked page (you can see how I got to that page). You can start over or type "keywords" into the search box...or go back to the HOME page and start looking manually through the wiring diagrams: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...system/ZeiGUpI
BMW engine nomenclature "cheat sheet":
- M_ _ = old generation engines
- S_ _ = engines used in "M" models
- N_ _ = new generation engines (started debuting in the early 2000's)

(you're right ---> N62) (Eventually, I'll get the engine code right....)
The odd thing is that I have access to a (I'll refrain from using engine codes for a while) 2001 X5 with the 3L. It does the exact same thing. Sends power to the aux. water pump by keeping it on for 4 seconds and then off for 20 seconds - then repeats the cycle. To any of you who have an X5 close by, I'd love to hear if yours does the same thing. Just for the sake of better understanding our machines.
Thanks for the help.
