Hey Everyone.
Looking at purchasing a 2004 545i manual with 180k mileage
I have a few things that I will be servicing. Including valve cover gaskets oil bracket gasket if leaking.
I understand the valve stem seals are a common issue however according to the owner there are
no signs of them failing at the moment.
Refreshing the entire cooling system (Including coolant transfer pipe) and suspension.
Is there anything else that I should be aware of and looking at?
Thanks!!
I just responded to your other thread. Run away as fast as you can.

You could encounter many problems at this mileage and with this engine oil leaks, valve stem seals, coolant pipe in the block. But you pretty much named all the areas, the automatic trans won't go out since it is a manual trans. How old is the clutch. The v8 with the stick is fun, but it's a high mileage car. I would research all the things you mentioned to see how they are done, are you going to do the work yourself?
I had an 05 545i sport with about 100k. It had really good ownership records, so I pulled the trigger. I ended up having the engine gaskets replaced when my alternator gasket blew. My coolant pipe leaked, but I was able to do it my self cheaply with bimmerfix.com (a stent that installs through the water pump opening.) My car never had an issue with stem seals as it never smoked. The only other major thing was a coolant hose, and my intake mod motor was dead (it drives without it, but much better when working). All in all, if you can get it cheap, and the previous owner put some effort in maintaining it, go for it. I really loved mine, and now I have an 06 M5.
