Hi yall,
Anyone have this issue before?
The driver side windshield wiper armature rubs against the hood and is causing rust.
It occurs right at that little joint...but IDK the technical term for that piece of the assembly.
I didn't notice til it rained a couple weeks ago and I actually had to use the wipers...
I'm wondering if maybe the driver and passenger side wipers were accidentally switched somewhere down the line?
You can see from the pics that there is a solid centimeter between the passenger wiper arm and the hood, while the driver one sits right under the hood and rubs.
Can anyone check against their arrangement and the angle of the wiper?
I attached the images with small red circles to display the difference between the 2 sides in regards to spacing between hood.
Thanks for the help and ride safe!
Cheers,
Chris
Mine is doing the same, but I believe that piece is plastic and not metal, so you shouldn’t have any rust issues.

Your hood height is may be too low on drivers side either because it needs a height adjustment or you lost the little square rubber hinge stop thingy #20 hown here:

You can also adjust the height a little by screwing the plastic pin above the A/C filters on top of the cover up or down.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the help. I followed your instructions, as well as those posted here (http://forum.roadfly.com/threads/124...ing-hood-piece.) and was able to raise the driver side hood via the center plastic pin and driver side bump stop. Unfortunately, I believe this is only fixing the symptom since the driver side windshield wiper armature is rusted and probably a little bent. But none the less a quick fix!
Now onto my driver side light. You can see from the below pic that the darn light rubs the hood when going up.
I tried adding washers to parts 21 and 22 to lift the hood a little, but to no avail.
I would imagine on such long hoods as these that over 20+ plus years they just tend to sag over time under their own weight?
Anyone else seen hood droop or problem like this?

I would guess the light bucket requires adjusting. it moves in all plains without the need for washers.
e31gixxer, do you know how to adjust the light bucket without washers? I know how on the lower running lights, but not the main beams...
And based on your name, I'm guessing you have a GSXR? I just started tracking my 06 SV. I know its the baby brother of the gsxr, but god is it fun!

There are four 17mm nuts that hold the bucket in position. When these are loosened it will allow front/back, left/right adjustment. The threaded post that these screw on to has a hex head (Allen key). By rotating the post this gives up/down adjustment.
This process can be quite hit and miss and you will probably have to have several attempts to get it right, but doable. There is a proper BMW tool for setting the gaps, but not many people have even seen one let alone own one, Gregg being one of the exceptions.
Not got any pics here with me, but pretty self explanatory, Timm may have some on his site, not sure. Good luck.
Yes last of the oil cooled 1100s amongst others.
There's one - to right of the manual light lift I'm twiddling:

The headlight bucket mounting bolts have the ability to be adjusted vertically in the frame. You will set an allen head on the screwshaft that the nut attaches to - this is what drives the whole mounting point up or down. Do not add washers - as you have already found out, it does not work and only compounds the problem for the remaining 3 mounting points.
