    Coding an M3 into a non-M chassis

I have old(ish) versions of DIS/TIS and INPA. I have NEVER coded anything nor seen it done. I have installed a 05/2002 S54 into a 02/2001 325iT. Donor and host are manual box cars. The S54 was COMPLETE with it harness, DME, and basically everything forward of the firewall except the ABS hardware. Karl at Active Autowerke has supplied a tune file for DME and the car is running. Additionally, I have a cluster out of a 2003 M3. (The reason I did not harvest the brake stuff and cluster is that the owner is doing an LS swap into the m3.) Needless to say, the cluster was a Christmas tree !!! The charge and oil pressure lights were dead, but using newTIS.info, I was able to resolve that. I have a few codes that need to be resolved (right seat occupancy, the CO monitor module, DME box fan) and will be this or next week. Initially, the DSC light was on, and there were all sorts of codes in quite a few systems. These may have been generated as I was confirming that things were working after the engine was bolted in bit not started, and as I was swapping the OEM and M3 cluster back and forth while resolving the charge and oil lights. The M cluster is in and fully functioning.

The car is not titled and tagged yet (doing that today) so driving the car has been limited to ONE mile on my street and puttering around in my yard (3 acres but no more than 10-15 MPH!!). I have cleared the codes and only the above codes have returned (even before starting the engine after clearing codes). I am anticipating that once I hit the street codes may return.

Of those that see this post, who KNOWS about the coding and hardware needs in this swap? I can not imagine all these systems are going to get along with each other just because I am a nice guy !!!!

Not to sound curt, but since I can't (yet) test drive the car, I can't share any more than what I posted above. This swap characteristically causes issue due to different written to different components. The cluster will have the VIN from the 03 M3 it came out of, ditto the M3 DME from the 02 M3 donor car, and ditto the various modules (lights, ABS, etc.) of the host 01 325 Touring. That is what I posed the question as I did. EVERYTHING I have read says some coding may be needed.

Update -- seems the various systems have come to know and like each other. The car is on the ground and running well. So, a 2001 E46 325i Touring with a 2002 S54 with full harness and DME, and a 2003 M3 cluster from a manual car. LOTS of time spent understanding newTIS.info wiring diagrams (MUST run in IE instead of Chrome if one wants the links to work) has netted functionality of everything except the cruise control. The ABS and DSC function without any intervention, although they are non-M sensitive so rather intrusive. No big deal.

So, the M Touring lives, and hauls ass when it want it to. Driven like a sane person, the fuel mileage is decent. Playing with the right pedal, however, means ownership of a refinery would be an asset !!!!!!!
