Weird technical question: The GPS on my iPhone X doesn't work in my 2005 Z4 3.0i. No GPS signal most of the time (comes back for a few minutes now and then, but mostly, acts as if no GPS signal).
What's weird:
- Same phone works fine everywhere else, in other cars.
- Apple sent a new phone -- and the second iPhone X in the Z4 also has no GPS signal.
- But an iPhone 6s works fine in the Z4!
Any theories? Apple support has not seen this. Can't find anyone else with this problem.
Have you tried it in another Z4? Does it make a difference if you roof is up or down? or any other BMW.
Try turing Bluetooth off? Wifi off? Cellular off while close to a starbucks and see if you can send a text make a call or pull up GPS using the wireless connection?
Maybe unplug the battery in your Z4 and see if the iPhone X works just to see if maybe there is a transmitter trying to find a signal that unfortunately is using the same frequency as your phone? That's what I would try.
This has happened to me as well with regular Garmin GPS units (2 of them). There are some old threads about this, but IIRC, the solution was to pull the fuse that BMW Assist was using.
