The stock radio I believe is no longer with us 😣 and the original speakers have been gone since I got her. Are there any particular brands that seem to fit this car better then others? The cd changer is still mounted in trunck, not sure of its condition, would be kinda cool to keep it just out of nostalgia reasons. Not looking for competition set up, but with enough kick to hear over the load exhaust.
Hi,
Over the years, there's been many E36 owners who've upgraded their audio setups. There's quite a few different routes you can take and some are better value/performing/sounding/featured than others. 'Competition' level is quite in depth and has it's own preferred ways of achieving excellent quality performance.
If you are looking for a more modest entry to mid range level of upgrade, then have a search around the various BMW forums for E36 installs and see which ones would be what you'd like. Fundamentals would be a good quality head unit, perhaps a 5 channel amplifier, some 2 way component speakers in the front, 2 way co-axials on the rear deck and a 8/10/12 inch subwoofer in a small enclosure with a 'ski hatch' in the rear seats so the 100% of the bass flows into the cabin.
A setup like that needn't cost big money, and you could save some by buying known excellent used products.
No point really in keeping the cd changer, USB sticks, music streaming, Bluetooth audio all can provide masses more music without having to load up and carry disks around.
Cheers, Dennis!
Thank you sir. Yes, just going to use the preexisting speaker locations, and have 10" alpine amp, sub n box to put in it.
