Hi All,
My 87 535is has the stock bmw radio/cassette player. The power antenna motor kicks on, but the telescoping mast has been long since been broken off.
I was able to find the radio code cryptically written in roman numerals on the service manual that came with the car. I punched the code in, and the radio unlocked itself. I was not expecting to have any fm or am reception whatsoever, but I was expecting to hear some static. Instead nothing, the radio operates like it should be playing, responds to commands and such. I popped a tape into the deck, and it seemed to functioning, just no sound. I play with the rolling switch to left which I believe is the fader for these cars, and nothing. I'm pretty sure there is not a separate fuse for the speakers alone, but I guess I could be wrong, those Bavarians had interesting ideas about a common ground system for speakers.
Is it more likely the unit is just hosed? Or is there a stereo module somewhere that I am not finding? My Bentley manual is on order.
Thanks,
Joe
Would it be possible to hook the radio up to other speakers as another test?
The booster module is above the RH wheelhouse. It is known to fail.
My amp is mounted on a bracket in the trunk just under left side of the back cash. I've surmised it to be dead - checked the schematic and tested the wires. The unit is getting power and a turn on signal but is not coming on. I think it's toast. Between that and the power antenna, it's pretty much time to consider a rewire and upgrade.
I have a good rear amp in the trunk.
Andy
