Hi
I am in the process of supercharging my 1997 323i e36. I have deleted the PCV and installed a Catch can.
I have blocked the large hole where the PVC went. On the bottom of the inlet manifold the is 3 hose fittings (1 larger and 2 smaller, 1 of which was covered)
I have the large one going to the throttle body.
One of the small ones going to the fuel rail
So just one small one left.
Is the small one that is left over to go to the catch can?
So I would have the crank case vent going to the catch can and the the other line going to this smaller fitting under the inlet manifold.
Is this correct?
Try the forced induction forum. Many of us have run them vented to atmosphere. A few recirculate them but you have to set it up so pressurized air won’t cause an issue. A few use vacuum pumps or a combination of pump plus intake or even exhaust vacuum. I think the old Technique Tuning turbo kits used one E39 M5 CCV in place of the stock one.
By venting to atmosphere do you mean have a hose from the crank case vent and the just a small oil breather filter on the second outlet on the catch can?
Yes. That was what I ran while supercharged and what I run now with the turbo. I did run an exhaust scavenge for a while and it worked. You have to get the angle right and use a check valve. Keeps the oil vapor out of the engine bay. But the vapor does get burned up in the exhaust so you may get more smoke at times.
Okay cheers mate I'll just stick an oil breather on the second outlet then
Depending on where you locate the can, you may smell oil vapor in the cabin at times (drawn in through the HVAC). Use as big a filter as you can fit — they make tiny ones and ones that are 2-3 inches tall and 3-4 inches around. Also keep the line as big as possible like 5/8 to 3/4 inch.
Where can I get a proper plug to plug the hole in the inlet manifold left by the CCV
