So why do we replace the collar nut on the rear Axles when replacing the wheel bearings? Do they deform after torqued? Is it just the Tabs that get bent, and its "safer" to replace?

Because they are a one time use nut and I'm sure the amount of torque has weakened them. Hell they only hold your drive axles in.
+1
The bearings I buy come with a new collar nut, but they are from FAG or similar quality.

I bought Timkens this time around.
Reybestos failed after 70k, and I am wondering if it is because I reused the Nut. None-the-less, the old nut held fine, but the bearings blew their grease out.
They were likely installed incorrectly..... the procedure is quite specific. - if the you used a hammer, you likely broke it. The hub is pushed into the bearing, and the axle PULLED into the hub. No tools of violence are used for installation. Well, except when you lock the new nut, using a hammer and a punch.
But Raybestos is not an OEM part, either. Their brakes suck, why wouldn't their wheelbearings?

Raybestos is up there with Duralast quality, or lack thereof.
Most of the OE bearing will get 150k or more out of them, my beater is at 180k with only 1 bearing replaced so far. I can hear the L/R starting to get a little loud, but like the fronts, I will get to it when it starts to be annoying.

Just returned timken bearings. They are made in China. Called timken and said two manufacturers, one in Japan and one in China. I know the Japanese bearings are marked KOYO, mine had no markings and are suspiciously similar to the reybestos.
Just ordered FAG bearings, only $20 price difference. Hopefully these are made in Germany
You'll be good with the Federated Auto group items.

Oh damn, my erudite friend caught me. Not everybody got that, you know? Okay, I'm making it go away. although you, of course, can see it forever.
Um, Sleepyhead, I have to ask that you edit that post. I was grossly politically incorrect, not acceptable in this day and age. Please erase what I said from your post, . I'm a neanderthal, what can I say? I thought it was funny, but I guess it's not , in 2018.

Of course. And BMWdirtracer wasn't being mean or hateful as that is the opposite of his being. The problem is the consequences of the 'fun and games' aspect of using a hateful slur in a public forum.
It's regretful that the 100+ year old German based company's name, FAG is an offensive term in today's world. But there's no excuse to continue making tired jokes about it.
A good short read on the topic. https://www.theodysseyonline.com/the-gay-word

Bearings came in from Autohausaz. I ordered them Monday around noon, came in Tuesday. . Wow. They are right next door to Texas though.. so I guess that makes sense?
Bearings look better. Made in Slovakia, which I guess is at least europe? Not China made so I'm happy. .
INA is also a bearing company that BMW uses, and they too have factories in Slovakia, I have never had problems with their bearing either.

Low tech manufacturing has been moving east for years. Heck (I would have written “hell” but that would have offended someone) my M240i was built in Leipzig, located in the former East Germany.
Yeah, once, in a moment of desperation, at the race track, I ordered a "Moog" rear sway bar link for my old E34 M5....and simultaneously asked Bimmerworld to bring an OEM part up the next day.
Inside the Moog box from Advance Auto was a Lemforder part.
