95 Vert to 3 Spoke Steering Wheel Questions ( searched / sanity check )

Hello Guys,

I have read a bunch of posts as well as the guides / diys for this semi common wheel upgrade, im
still posting just to be 100% sure on the parts I need to swap out my steering wheel to a newer
3 spoke. I really want to be 100% sure on what I need before I forget something and my car is out
of commission until more parts arrive.

There is so many variations of parts / clock springs / single vs dual stage airbags etc etc..

My Build Date - 3/95

In Frankie's guide it states "For those with badged airbags ('95-on, except M3) who just want to retrofit a sport wheel ( thats me ).
With these cars (build date of 9/94 or later using slip ring '111) it should be a direct bolt-on/plug-in process."

What does he mean by "Badged" ? like a 4 spoke with a color roundel? Mine is a 9/95 build with the all black logo.

Just looking to confirm the parts I will need since my car is 3/95 ( 9/94 or later per his guide ) do I have slip ring 111?
and if so is this guide stating its a direct bolt on with no additional parts needed outside of a new airbag and wheel?

I cant confirm that and I want to be 100% sure I get all the parts to do the wheel swap in one shot.

Can anyone confirm these are the only parts needed :

1. Wheel + appropriate airbag ( think it has to be single stage )
2. Slipring / clockspring 111 ( am I one of the lucky ones that uses the one I already have? )

Cant wait to have a later gen 3spoke or euro 3 spoke whichever I can find priced right, Ebay seems to have a ton for sale some overseas that look to good to be true but the sellers have good feedback..

Yes - badged wheel means one with the colored roundel. You need a single stage airbag wheel from a late e36 M3, not a dual stage from a Z3 or later series model (3/99 -)

Your's appears to have the older original 4 spoke wheel which I had on my '94. I had to get the 111 slip ring and the updated steering wheel switch p/n 32 31 1 162 088, I then had to splice just my horn wire. He mentions in his notes that some convertibles through 97 may use the older 804 slip ring so yours may be one of them. If it is, the slip ring pin will be on the upper right instead of the 111 design on the left side of the column. If this is the case you need to follow the 94 and all M3 procedures. Only way to be 100% sure is to remove your wheel and confirm the slip ring part number and switch pin location.

Thanks for making this more clear I really appreciate it, Since my car is just sitting in the garage for the next two to 3 months ill start looking into exactly what parts I need.
Is it best to stick with a USA Spec 98-99 3 spoke or are some of these other ebay auctions safe? They almost look too good to be true but the feedback says they should be fine.

If you prefer the euro sport wheel some of the eBay vendors are fine. Try sending a PM to member shepott here. He remanufactures those wheels and people speak highly about his work.

Would this work with the proper 111 slipring? Appears to be a great price and has good feedback, Its that or one from Sheppot.
