Coupler Size for Vanos Air Tester

    Hey everyone,

So I have been trying to test the travel of my vanos using special tool 11 3 450. It seems as though the coupler size is not common in the US as I have already tried 1/4" and 3/8" with no success. I have heard that a Nitto coupler works, but I am not entirely sure. Also, I would have to wait on shipping from Australia for a piece that potentially wouldn't work.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Heres a link for reference:

Just use any air blower attachment with a rubber head on it. Shove it in the hole, hold it, hold lever down.

Yes, I was considering that, but I would rather have the correct coupler though. I'm rather picky about my tools.

I doubt you are pickier than Braymond, but try this:

That's the one that I purchased as well. How do you hook up air to it, with a coupler or with a sprayer with a rubber nozzle?

No way i'm pickier than Braymond, i've seen that mans work and its thoroughly impressive time and time again.

Looks like it is a male air hose coupler.

It is not a standard coupler. At least I could not find a fitting that worked.
Just make one of these using a standard coupler

It really isn’t necessary though. You’ll see when you do the work. Spend more time on a solenoid switch.

The hose to standard barb is going to be the easiest, just be mindful of all that metal shit hanging off on your paint.

There are actually 2 types of standard air hose couplers, but one is more common than the other.

Ended up using a similar setup to what JitteryJoe suggested and everything worked out great. As for the electrical portion, I used a spare HiFi speaker switch, 2 female factory BMW pins, 2 (+)(-) clamps, wiring, and a spare BMW electrical plug.

Scrap aluminum and a fitting of choice - $2 total + ~20 minutes to drill and tap.

Of all places, harborfreight has a universal female air hose quick release that works on both of the fittings shown in this thread. Not a big fan of HF but it works.
