what if any are the differences between heads....

i realize cams are different,
maybe valve sizes. . .
combustion chamber size. . .

M54 is a dual VaNos head.
M50/S50/M52/S52 is a single VaNos Head.
M50 and M52 are very similar. The S50, S52, and M52 carry the same “400” casting number, the M50 is a different casting, though as far as I know the M50 accepts the M52 head. The S52 has higher seat force springs .
M50 and S50 have two head temperature ports drilled and tapped, M52/S52 has a single temperature port.

And M54 heads don’t fit M50,M52,S50,S52. They do fit M52TU that is a dual vanos motor used on the 99-00 E39 528i.

And the single Vanos heads fit the single Vanos aluminum M52 block from the 97-98 Z3 Roadster 2.8.
