    e28 Rim Size Question

    Hi Guys,

I am buying a garage queen 1987 535i. Unfortunately, it still has the stupid metric TRX rims and tires. It's been garaged so long, the tires are shot. There's no I am going down the path of replacing the tires, they are garbage and way over priced. I've been rummaging through the forums and haven't found an answer yet to my question:

I found a guy selling a set of style 45's, which are 16 x 7, et 47 - probably from an e36. The guy is selling them for an awesome price, will these fit an 87 535i??

Any response would great, the sooner the better - the guy is itching to sell them.

    Thanks a bunch!

    Joe

Won't fit without using huge spacers which isn't recommend, normal offset is in the 20 range. Look for better fitting wheels, you'll enjoy the car much more.

Consider 16 inch style 29's which come from E-39's. A "basketweave" style with the correct 20 offset.

Thanks for chiming in guys. I did a polite pass and just inflated the v390's up enough to get it on and off a flatbed. Still on the hunt. I'm eyeing some style 5's, which I believe I'll need to research more. Anyhow I really appreciate the quick responses.

    E34 Style 5's are a 15 inch and are a direct fit.

E39 Style 5's are 16 inch, have the non hex centre, and need a thin hubcentric ring to fit properly onto the hub. Offset is fine. (E39s for some reason came out with a slightly larger bore hub than most other BMWs). I am running these on the E24 and they look good.

Of course you can go the BBS RC090 Style 5s, which are 17" and came on e39 as and option. Much more costly though! And they need the hubcentric spacers. There is a version of these also (very rare) that came on E34 with the correct hub bore.
